Following on from the threads of what is this person like by their name! We have decided not to find out about the sex of our first baby. So our options are down to Sebastian/ Hugo/ Henry or Frances/ Tabitha / Elizabeth.
Lighthearted! Who do you see as a grown up with any/all those names?

I'd assume that the parents were very upper middle class, or if not, wanting to give that impression that they were.

Hugo - bit of a braying public schoolboy sort. Might be nice chap, but definitely brays
Sebastian - more of an international feel. Works in finance
Henry – posh sporty type. Rugby internationals are his religion
Frances – posh bluestocking
Tabitha - posh hippy
Elizabeth – one of those everywoman names

junemoon01 · 07/06/2021 11:26

Agree with what @Serpenta said re class.

Sebastian/ Hugo/ Frances – Made In Chelsea

Henry – Nice enough. Henry Hoover.

Tabitha – tabby cat

Elizabeth – ok, classic, English, good nicknames

LadyCatStark · 07/06/2021 11:31

The boys names: all privately educated, loud rugby players. Wear pink shirts with the collars up and a floppy hair cut.

Frances/ Tabitha: again privately educated, horsey, wears a lot of stripy clothing from Joules etc.

Elizabeth: could be anything really.

zyx12 · 07/06/2021 11:31

Like Sebastian and Henry, good names for kids as well as an adult. Frances and Elizabeth are my mother's first and middle names, plus my grandma's first name so I'd struggle to imagine them as anything else! Not sure I'm madly keen on Tabitha as Tabby is too feline.

For the avoidance of doubt, none of my opinions are in any way rational but meant in a light hearted way...

MaMelon · 07/06/2021 11:35

Wouldn’t think anything about the girls names really. Frances was quite popular a while back here in Scotland, so lots of middle aged Frances/Francis/Frankie boy!

The boys names are fairly upper middle class - I’d reserve judgement until I met their parents.

HeatherC1985 · 07/06/2021 11:46

Thank you so much so far! And thank you for the lighthearted! I don’t take offence at all!

Henry
Frances
Elizabeth

These three seem cliche free to me. Could be anything/anyone and I wouldn’t be surprised. Good all round names. Elizabeth is actually a stellar name to me (along with Catherine) - classic strong great nn potential etc.
Hugo - still see as very middle class.
Sebastian - also middle class.
Tabitha - the oddity for me - see this as kind of transatlantic. In U.K. would feel it is slightly more middle class than anything but not wholly. Not fond of this name.

HeronLanyon · 07/06/2021 11:49

I meant to add Hugo is definitely a wine merchant. Or an auction house employee/valuer/expert.
Very possibly estate agent for eg staggs/savilles (country estates).
😂

Violetlavenders · 07/06/2021 11:52

According to Mumsnet names like Hugo, Sebastian, Henry, Tabitha etc are all upper class pretentious names Grin

Personally I like them.

Winwins · 07/06/2021 11:56

Sebastian - happy, masculine, chilled (love this name)
Hugo - posh
Henry - masculine

Frances - old lady
Tabitha - posh
Elizabeth - no specific association. “Everywoman” above was a good description

RosesAndHellebores · 07/06/2021 11:56

Tabitha always makes me think of bewitched. She will twitch her nose.

Hugo - ds was going to be Hugo but we changed our minds last minute. Henry was also a strong contender. Sebastian was too fussy for our surname. DS is now grown up. Needless to say he became a very sporty public schoolboy with a different name.

The girls names - Frances and Elizabeth would be jolly sensible.

HeatherC1985 · 07/06/2021 12:28

I did wonder about bewitched as someone unrelated to baby names mentioned Tabitha as a witchy name however I think it was a bit before my time so wonder if her generation would make the connection?

I have 2 of those names so I see myself lol.

Mydarlingmyhamburger · 07/06/2021 12:34

Wet and stuffy

HeatherC1985 · 07/06/2021 12:50

Luckily I like wet and stuffy 😂😂 least I’m consistent I suppose!

Elizabeth is a name that could suit absolutely any type of girl/woman.
Sebastian = lobster from little mermaid. Anyone with this name will sunburn badly Grin
Hugo has always made me think of hunchbacked servants for some reason, maybe I read it in a book or something.
Henry = rugby bore
Frances = spinster aunt
Tabitha = cat

Posieandpip · 07/06/2021 12:54

Love them all!

HeronLanyon · 07/06/2021 12:56

petit did Victor Hugo write hunchback of notre dame ??

ThedaBara · 07/06/2021 12:58

I know a few Sebastians, they're all doctors. I think 'good, kind men'
Henry was my gran's dog's name, so always think of it a dog's name (sorry!)
Elizabeth's to me a very headstong, leader of the pack types

Serpenta · 07/06/2021 13:02

I was about to suggest Victor Hugo for the hunchback association too

HeronLanyon · 07/06/2021 13:03

Looked on wiki afterwards and it was Hugo ! What blew my mind was that he also wrote les mis did not know that.

MissingTheMoonlight · 07/06/2021 13:05

Henry is such an ace name but the damn hoover ruined it for me.

You might also like Theo, Spencer, George

TatianaBis · 07/06/2021 13:47

Love Sebastian - he is cool, good looking and clever. Like Hugo and Henry - ditto.

Loathe Elizabeth and all its diminutives. Frances is frumpy and quiet.
Tabitha is cool and clever but prefer Talitha.

MerryChristmasToYou · 07/06/2021 13:54

The parents are

Sebastian - dad a blue collar worker, SAHM or part-time work
Hugo - housing association with aspirations?
Henry - middle class
Frances - middle class
Tabitha - Sibling had already used Matilda
Elizabeth - middle class

HeatherC1985 · 07/06/2021 14:35

Very much enjoying these thank you!
