Hi what are your thoughts on Marina?

We also like Connie and Lara but Marina is front runner. What do you think?

It's quite popular where I live. People suggested it when I named DD as an alternative to Melissa. Also Marissa meaning 'of the sea'

I liked Connie too but would have insisted on Contance on BC which DH vetoed.

Phoebe, Sophia, Abigail and Jasmine were the other names on our shortlist.

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 15:43

Beautiful.

To me, it belongs in a group with Helena, Alexandra, Calista, Anastasia & Xenia.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 06/06/2021 15:56

I think of a place for boats or a mirena coil.

toastofthetown · 06/06/2021 16:37

Love Marina. It would be at the top of my list for a girl.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/06/2021 16:39

I like it.

I like your other names too, my favourite of your 3 is Lara

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/06/2021 16:41

I like Marnie. I also think ‘Ma-reeee-nah, aqua ma-reeeeeee-nahhhhhhh’

Celandines · 06/06/2021 16:41

Love it

springblossom2 · 06/06/2021 16:46

@cushioncovers Grin Grin

Nope - I don't like it. A marina is for parking your boats on.

ihatebindweed · 06/06/2021 17:00

I don't like it, but I do know one. Goes by Mi

ihatebindweed · 06/06/2021 17:00

Lara for me

RosesAndHellebores · 06/06/2021 17:03

Love it. Grannie's middle name. She'd be about 110 now. Her sister was Evelyn Helena.

Monkeytennis97 · 06/06/2021 17:05

@cushioncovers

Merina coil
My first thought too tbh
RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 17:08

@cushioncovers

Merina coil
Maybe because you are spelling and pronouncing “mirena” wrongly? Wink
Gothichouse40 · 06/06/2021 17:10

I personally know a lady called Marina. I think it's a lovely name.

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 17:15

The Marinas I associate with it are:-

Marina Diamandis
Marina Hyde
Princess Marina
Marina Lewycka
Marina Fogle

KatnissEver · 06/06/2021 17:15

Marina is a very popular name in Russia. My two besties were called Marina. One is known as Maroussia in her family.
There was a famous Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva. And a French actor, Marina Vladi.

partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 18:15

Lovely!

Lara is lovely but is v popular and blurs with all the similar Lola Leah names. Connie I love of short for Constance/Constanzia but not stand alone

TatianaBis · 06/06/2021 18:19

It’s ok. A bit meh. I associate it with yacht enclaves.

I don’t know why you say ‘not Serena’ as it’s similar but much nicer.

Also prefer Marissa, Mariana or Marianne/a

boogiewithasuitcase · 06/06/2021 18:30

Mariana is also nice.

Adventing · 06/06/2021 18:37

I like it but I don't love it. Most Marinas I've met have been in their 30s upwards I would say and most are from various parts of the world though not British. Neither of which are bad things but its a little hard to imagine on a baby, though she won't be a baby for long.

I'm not that keen on Lara but love Connie as a nn for Constance

Raindropumbrella · 06/06/2021 20:48

I love it

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2021 21:19

Love it

allofthecheese · 06/06/2021 21:23

I knew a lovely lady called Marina. I like it.

tigerbreadandtea · 06/06/2021 21:24

A refreshing change from all the Avas, Evas, Olivias.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/06/2021 21:28

Marina is lovely - very elegant, Shakespearean and well used internationally (yet fairly uncommon in the UK). I also like that she can choose quite different feeling nn's for it too if she wants (Marnie, Mina, Mimi, maybe even Mai (May)).

I like Lara too though - similarly elegant, international and romantic feeling.

Connie is a very different style to me - retro nicknamey (like Annie, Edie etc).
