and a sibling named their DC:

  1. Ivy - what would you think? Too similar to Evie?
  2. Alfred (nn Alfie) - would the possibility of Fred/Freddie as nn in the future annoy you?

(Also I wrote this and thought it had posted but I don't think it has so apologies if it appears twice)

I think you should go for the name you love regardless of what a sibling has chosen for their dc

Both Ivy and Alfie are lovely

Ivy and Evie I do think are too close. How about Iris?

Alfred nn Alfie is fine - he’s not going to adopt Freddie if that’s his brother’s name.

I assume the children are cousins not siblings @partyatthepalace

I wouldn’t even give it a second thought

Thank you all. Yes they'll be cousins.

We have Iris on the list but DP isn't keen. We just keep coming back to Ivy. Evie was in our top 3 for DC1 (but he was a boy) so I'm not sure whether that's why we keep coming back to Ivy - because it is so similar or whether it's just because we like the name!

I don’t really think Evie and ivy are particularly similar, to be honest. I can see when you say them out loud they sound similar but they are very different ‘types’ of names, I think.

I wouldn’t worry about Freddie, either. I think Alf/Alfie is more common as a diminutive than Freddie.
