DH and I have talked for a long time about using my surname instead of his (we’ve only recently married) because he isn’t particularly close or connected with his family anymore and hasn’t been for almost fifteen years, while I’m very very close to me. Problem is, growing up, I always felt self conscious about the possible ‘pretentiousness’ of my surname, and was recently told that it was used as the surname of the ‘posh’ character in the movie ‘Monte Carlo’ which makes me even more unsure about saddling our future kids with it, particularly as our favourite names are seemingly traditional English ones which tend to sound a little ‘preppy’ if paired with my sort of surname.
My surname is Winthrop Scott.
DH’s surname is von Halle.
Am I totally crazy here? Who’s surname is less preppy please?!
Also - whichever we go with will be both mine and DH’s surname, plus our kids. We aren’t thinking about giving the kids my surname but he keeps his or vice versa.
