Sadly Florence doesn’t really work with the surname and is hard work to shape the sounds I think.

So I’ll go for Elowen which has a bit of medieval romance or Lord of the rings kind of ring to it (excuse the pun) although apparently a modern name it seems.

alexdgr8 · 05/06/2021 00:50

not Ophelia, gives rise to ribaldry, oh feel ya.
Florence or Penelope, are good.
but don't like wren, is it a family name, surname.

Amdone123 · 05/06/2021 02:59

Don't like Orphelia or Florence. Too popular.
Love Penelope and Matilda. Matilda Morris is lovely.
Whilst I like Elowen, it looks like a spelling mistake to me ( I know it isn't, but it's all I see. I prefer Elodie).

AlmostSummer21 · 05/06/2021 03:15

Matilda goes lovely with your surname (and it's shortenings)

Florence doesn't work with your surname & gives way to lots of not very nice nic names.

I like Penelope if you intend to call her Penny.

Ophelia I find 'try hard posh' (sorry) & I don't like Lucienne (nor the Luce nickname Lucy is nice)

Elowen will be pronounced numerous ways and will most British accents, not very nicely or shortened to Ellie.

I prefer Jane as the middle name

So

TLDR

Matilda Jane Monson
😉

Changedname81 · 05/06/2021 07:52

Thank you for all your comments

Jane is mother’s name so wanted to potentially incorporate that.

Whilst I won’t be able to control what friends call her Penelope for me would be Nell before she was Penny.
Although as someone myself with a three syllable first name who has only ever been called that full name (think “yellow hat” if you’re old enough Wink) then I would likely call the full name at home for all the names Grin

Agree with Florence - sadly it doesn’t work. DP also suggested Isobel.

I also like Mabel but didn’t put it as I wasn’t sure with the alliteration.

Also Mohnson made my day Grin

Ophelia Maeve M— it's ok. It feels like a beautiful name but the "I feel ya" thing does bother me and maybe it bothers me more because your sn sounds like a man's name
Florence Jane M— I don't think you can use Florence with your sn even though it's a lovely name
Penelope Wren M— I'm not a Penelope fan
Matilda Jane M— lovely
Lucienne Marie M— not keen. I know 3 boys called Lucien and love that but I don't quite know how to on Lucienne. I like Lucinda or Lucia
Elowen Alice M— gorgeous

Matilda or Elowen (or Lucinda) for me.

TatianaBis · 05/06/2021 09:03

Matilda Alice M
Ophelia Jane M

Don’t like the others.

TatianaBis · 05/06/2021 09:04

Ophelia I find 'try hard posh'

If you are posh you’re not trying?

Changedname81 · 05/06/2021 10:56

Re Ophelia - definitely not posh just really love the way it flows.

Penelope Jane or Penelope Wren!
Not Elowen Alice M-, it's so hard to say.

I understand what this poster means. It's one of those names that middle class people see as aspirational/posh. Nothing wrong with that for the avoidance of doubt. I'd put Tatiana, Laslo and Horatio in the same category. By comparison, the uber posh people I've met seem to call their children quite ordinary and unexciting names.
ozzyfroggy · 05/06/2021 14:27

I love Jane with your surname. And I just love Jane. Elowen is my favourite from your list. Some other suggestions - Juliette, Marianne, Lucinda, Angelica, Juniper.

Can't stand Wren. Grin

DeadButDelicious · 05/06/2021 14:37

Penelope Wren definitely! A beautiful name!

TatianaBis · 05/06/2021 19:20

@zyx12 middle class people tend to use middle class names such as Ophelia.

Tatiana is Russian, Laszlo is Hungarian.

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2021 18:33

Ophelia Maeve M— not keen on either name
Florence Jane M— nice
Penelope Wren M— don't like Wren unless as a surname
Matilda Jane M— Matilda too popular, Jane abit dated as a middle name
Lucienne Marie M— seems dated. Lucy is nicer than Lucienne
Elowen Alice M— Elowen will be mispronounce (It's el-OW-en, not EL-ow-en

I'd go for Jane as a first name and maybe Penelope as a middle name.

Matilda Malexander isn't great

Neither is Alice Malexander

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2021 18:35

or Florence Malexander

missed a d on pronounced

Posieandpip · 07/06/2021 05:40

Ophelia Maeve M and Elowen Alice both sound amazing as whole names. I'd not choose Ophelia or Elowen normally but they do sound great with Maeve/Alice and your surname. Elowen Alice is very wholesome and English and makes me think of a little girl running around in the countryside wearing old fashioned dresses for some reason. Which I love.

Posieandpip · 07/06/2021 05:42

Oops. I read your OP as your surname rhyming with PMs SURNAME, not first name, so I thought your surname was (something like) Monson (in hindsight don't think this is even a surname). If the surname is Morris, Elowen Alice doesn't work at all - Alice and Morris don't work together, the whole name becomes a bit of a mouthful.

Tlollj · 07/06/2021 05:57

I didn’t like Wren until I read this thread now suddenly I do.
Penelope Wren I love. Nell is very cute too.

Tlollj · 07/06/2021 05:59

Oh I just remembered what about Clementine.

pilates · 07/06/2021 06:28

Matilda Jane

littleredberries · 07/06/2021 06:31

I like both versions with Jane, for your surname

VenusClapTrap · 07/06/2021 08:20

Love Lucienne Marie!

starfire88 · 07/06/2021 09:04

My top two are Florence Jane and Matilda Jane. They seem to flow nicely with your surname.
