Not sure if we’re having a girl or boy yet but think we’ve narrowed the girls list down to four possibilities. Needs to go with big sisters name Maya (pronounced My-A).

Thoughts?

Cecelia (likely to use CeeCee for NN)
Evie
Riley
Annie

Actually, now I see them both written down together I think Cecilia probably looks better

I like them all but in order from favourite to least favourite..

Evie
Riley
Annie
Cecelia

sorryiasked · 31/05/2021 18:35

Annie could be short for:
Anne
Anna
Annabel/Annabella
Annalise (my favourite)
Or possibly
Andrea
Angela
Anita

KirstenBlest · 31/05/2021 18:48

Cecelia (likely to use CeeCee for NN) - don't like the spelling or the nn
Evie - nice but overused
Riley - awful
Annie - nice

GlencoraP · 31/05/2021 18:54

Cecilia
Evie
Annie Riley ( really don’t like this one)

pilates · 31/05/2021 18:56

Annie is my favourite, the other two are ok. Strongly dislike Riley.

JustanotherTuesday · 31/05/2021 19:02

I knew a little girl called Annie but her full name was Anastasia. I think that's nice.

Spied · 31/05/2021 19:05

Cecilia

BiBabbles · 31/05/2021 19:41

Annie is my favourite of those. For a longer name - maybe Annora? The previous suggestion of Anastasia is also nice.

Riley can be okay.
Cecelia/Cecilia is ok though I prefer Celia
Evie is a gut-no for me, but that's a negative association rather than anything to do with the name.

Sonata13 · 31/05/2021 20:06

I like Riley sounds like beautiful tomboy.

partyatthepalace · 31/05/2021 20:31

Cecilia top choice. Great name. Classic but unusual enough to be interesting. I’d use the standard spelling though.

Anna nn Annie as second choice. Classic. (Hannah, Annabel/la, Annabeth, Annelise/a, Annette, Anoushka, Anastasia, Anya, Anouk are all alternative versions of Anne that would give you Annie as nn, or even things like Rosanna or Susannah)

Eve nn Evie is lovely but way overused

Riley - nooo. V downmarket

hilarymantlepiece · 31/05/2021 20:34

They’re all lovely. If pushed, Cecelia.

UpTheJunktion · 31/05/2021 20:46

Cecelia
Annie

Evie

Riley.

UpTheJunktion · 31/05/2021 20:47

Riley is dreadful IMO, abd dies not go with Maya.

MitheringSunday · 31/05/2021 20:53

Annie 'goes' best with Maya by far. Cecilia (which is the proper spelling AIUI) is a bit 'much' next to Maya, but I think Cecily would work really well.
I don't think Annie needs to have a formal birth cert name tbh. It could be short for Marianne, I suppose.

Evie's too popular. Riley - really stands out from your other choices, and not at all in a good way.

MitheringSunday · 31/05/2021 20:54

@JustanotherTuesday

I knew a little girl called Annie but her full name was Anastasia. I think that's nice.
Oh yes, that's good. I quite like Anneliese too.
MitheringSunday · 31/05/2021 20:55

And I'm sorry, but CeeCee is horrible - it would be a shame to spoil a lovely name like that. The sisters in What Katy Did had a friend called Cecy. That's nice, and not pronounced all that differently.

stuckinarutatwork · 31/05/2021 21:08

Cecelia - No. Awful
Evie - No. Overused
Riley - No. I only know boy Rileys.
Annie - Yes. A classic that suits all ages.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/05/2021 22:17

Not Riley imo - surname feel and very unisex (leaning masculine) compared to Maya.

Evie and Annie are a bit nickname/insubstantial compared to Maya too (I'd guess for Eva/Evelyn or Anna/Annabel).

Cecelia is a gorgeous name but if you are in the UK I'd use the classic Cecilia spelling instead (you can still use the cute nn Cece!). Cecilia is about twice more popular than the Cecelia variation, so will it be the spelling many people will assume anyway (and also helps avoid confusion with the separate name Celia).

Babynamechange1bn · 31/05/2021 22:27

Thanks everyone!

Think we’ve probably narrowed it down to Cecilia or Annie then as the top two.

I’m leaning towards Cecilia at the minute but do think Annie is very cute.

Chilldonaldchill · 31/05/2021 22:36

I love Cecilia (spelt like that) and Cece as a nickname. It's gorgeous with Maya.
Annie is nice too.
Evie is a bit dull.
Riley is really not good.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 31/05/2021 23:02

I think Annie is fine as a full name, but lots of options if you prefer a longer one. I know an Annunciata, known as Annie. Very catholic. I knew her as Annie for a while before realising she had a longer name.
Cecilia is ok, but much prefer Cecily - less frilly.

Tillygetsit · 31/05/2021 23:07

I know a 30yr old Rhiannon known as Annie. Also you could have Marianne, Roseanne, Annalise etc.

Newhousehope · 31/05/2021 23:13

Cecilia is awful - sounds like a 80 year old (but old is back, apparently)
Like wise Annie
Evie - I don’t like but it’s better than the above
I like Riley - different, I like unisex names.
