Really struggling for a girls name.
DH loves Elsa but I can’t realistically use it without everyone always commenting on frozen can I? Is she going to get let it go sang at her for eternity if I do go for it?

Any suggestions of alternatives?

Others on the list if anyone has any thoughts or ideas of something I may have missed!

Evelyn
Elise
Harriet
Ivy
Eleanor
Ada

Ilsey?

I quite like Elsie, is it a bit too old lady though? The only Elsie I know is about 100 Blush

I like Elsa and would go for it if you and dh likes it. Elsie is cute too imo

TempsPerdu · 27/05/2021 11:00

It’s a lovely name and we would have considered it for DD if it wasn’t for the Frozen thing. I do think Frozen has probably peaked now, but I still wouldn’t be brave enough to risk it yet!

Pp’s suggestions of Honor and Aster are a good call - both of those were on our list too. Otherwise Rosa, Lena and Etta all have a similar feel to Elsa for me. Wouldn’t personally choose Elsie as it’s a lot cutesier and less strong than Elsa IMO.

You have nice taste in names. Of your list, I like Elise, Harriet and Eleanor. Re Eleanor - if it gets shortened to Ellie / Ellen, how much will it annoy you? Because no matter what someone’s name is, someone else will shorten it.

Frozen is quite an old film now. You can use Elsa. Some other people have suggested Ailsa / Ilsa (both lovely) - when people mishear those and call your daughter Elsa, how much will it annoy you? Bit like Amelie / Emily.

Elsie is a lovely name for a tiny girl or an old lady. I can’t imagine a 40 year old Elsie but that might just be my lack of imagination

JellyTots2009 · 27/05/2021 11:07

There's loads of names that people associate with films or celebrities. Once people know her they won't bring it up.
I know an Elsa (she mid 40) and not once have we brought up frozen. It crossed my mind when we met but I didn't bring it up. No one around us has ever mentioned it.

If you like the name I would go for it

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/05/2021 11:12

I think Elsa is a lovely name and it was on my list for our third who is eleven now, so before Frozen.

I would use it if I loved it. The film wouldn't put me off.

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 11:17

Elsie is so cutsie, it lacks the oomph and sophistication of Elsa

Lemonlemon88 · 27/05/2021 11:19

I have never met an Elsa. So no I don't think so.

I was going to suggest Elspeth... might be a good mix if you like Elsa, Elsie, Elizabeth?

I have met a set of twins (~5 years old now) called Anna & Elsa... I darent ask if the parents had seen frozen!

kate891 · 27/05/2021 16:00

My daughter is 'Elza' - shes currently at preschool and we've not had any Frozen references although if people call her Elsa she corrects them. She was named for her Gt Gran :)

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/05/2021 16:12

twins named Anna and Elsa it's a lovely pairing.
My dd1 is Anna and I thought Elsa would be nice with it.

Brendabigbaps · 30/05/2021 20:11

Elsa was on my final 3 list 8 years ago, after the lion. Love born free.
I’m so glad we didn’t pick it now as not long after frozen was released.

CoffeeWithCheese · 31/05/2021 20:36

Sibling of one of my DD's friends is an Elsa - must have been born about a year before Frozen came out. I don't think she's had much of people making the link as you'd expect to be fair.

ladycarlotta · 31/05/2021 20:56

I'm surprised that Elsa hasn't really had a spike in this country since Frozen was released. Honestly, I think it's a well-enough known name to not suffer from the Disney connection too much, it's not like you're calling her Moana.

I'd really like to use it if we have another daughter. With our first my partner was all for Ilsa, like Ingrid Bergman's character in Casablanca, but I just thought we'd be letting her in for a lifetime of people misreading it as Isla.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 31/05/2021 20:59

I only know one Elsa (named before the film) and yes, I did associate it with Frozen.

I wouldn't chose it as a first name. But if you like it, go for it.
It's not like Adolf. that's a name that's properly ruined
