Am in the Highlands, so it's a 'fit-in' name I'm looking for. I don't want to resurrect a name that hasn't been used since 1852...

It needs to be pronouncable/spellable for non-Gaelic speakers, so although I love Eòghann, Seonachan etc, they probably won't work. I'm looking for a name already commonly used, which non-Gaelic speakers are accustomed to seeing already.

I've got a shortlist, but hoping to expand it!

Alasdair
Iain
Niall
Ruairidh
Cailean

Can anyone add to the list?

@FeistySheep no I’m not in the highlands so we would use the more common spellings of names where we stay

Douglas/Dùbhghlas is my current favorite Scottish name, but I'm not sure how often its used in Gaelic to be honest. I also like Duncan and Sandy but I'm not sure whether they are used in Gaelic much either!

I haven't found many names that are spelt/pronounced the same in both gaelic and english and unfortunately they probably will end up being mangled in one language or the other. I think Calum is maybe the few that might cross over.

Not sure if they are of Gaelic origin or not, but I've always loved Fraser and Finlay.

I have a soft spot for Sorley (Somhairle) which has the rather lovely meaning, so I'm led to believe, of Summer wanderer.
