Middle name ideas for Saoirse

Hi everyone

We’re expecting baby girl in 3 months and pretty set on the name Saoirse, but struggling with a nice sounding middle name. I like the shorter names as Saoirse (pronounced Seer-sha) is a bit lengthy in itself. Have considered the likes of Faye, Elle etc. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Another vote for Saoirse Maeve.

@Anordinarymum
Saoirse Ronan's pronunciation of her name is atypical (and varies a bit depending on the interview she's giving).
The more usual pronunciation is given in this link

@thepiratequeen

I find the Sur sha pronunciation very similar to the name Sorcha which is a different name with a different meaning.
I met an English person with a baby Sorcha which I pronounced as surraka. She corrected me and said 'it's actually pronounced sore-sha'

I smiled politely and refrained from telling her she was wrong, wrong, wrong.

@thepiratequeen, I hear Sorcha with the o sounding like the o in Carol, but I'm not Irish.

I think Saoirse is more popular because of the actress. I'd predict lots of misspellings and dodgy pronunciations.

I'd recommend Maeve too. It's a lovely combination.

@Serpenta 😂😂 how could they get it so wrong. I met some one who’s surname is Shaugnessy (pronounced shocknessy). She pronounced it “shownessy”. Made me giggle too!

Gorgeous name.

I think Niamh or Maeve would be good.

Lovely name.

How about Saoirse Nadine?

I really like the rhythm of that, it flows well. Or maybe another name like that- Colleen, Jeanette.

I was reading Seamus O'Reilly's Guardian column today about a recent Irish family wedding. Best bit, where he wrote, "Fionnuala (pronounced Fionnuala) and Adam (pronounced Adhamn, I think?)"
Just love that little twist from the Irish perspective, made me giggle all over again when I read your post!

waltzingparrot · 25/05/2021 03:07

Saoirse Rose was lovely.

PastaLaVistaBBY · 25/05/2021 03:13

I love the name Saoirse! It would be on my list but we have no Irish roots.

I agree Saoirse Maeve is lovely. Also like the following:

Saoirse Clare
Saoirse Mary
Saoirse Jane
Saoirse Anne

DalPalak · 25/05/2021 04:27

Saoirse Treasa (to go with another Irish name)
Saoirse Renée
Saoirse Sunday
Saoirse Sarah

Oh yeah some of the surname pronunciations! KAY-hill for Cahill, KEY-one for Keown, DOUGH-erty for Doherty Grin

Thanks so much everyone! Some absolute gems in there for me to consider :) Especially loving Saoirse Niamh, but have a feeling the other half will veto two Irish names Hmm I can all but try!
