I've read several baby name threads but still need help choosing one for our little one.
I like older traditional names. English. Quite like Molly but feel it is more a nn and can't imagine having a baby called Margaret.
Any old English names people may have forgotten and could suggest??
Literally open to anything right now. DD is 7 days old and feel this needs to be sorted!!

Molly is a nn for Mary. It's fine as a full name.
Mary is nice too.

LarkDescending · 21/05/2021 10:43

Maria?

Yes, Molly is a nn for Mary, not Margaret.
Marie or Maria as a pp said. Mari is Welsh, pronounced a bit like marry?
Rosemary, Rosemarie?
Marianne?

Twizbe · 21/05/2021 14:12

Molly is short for Mary.

You don't meet many girls called Mary now a days

LadyGAgain · 21/05/2021 15:35

I love Mary

emmathedilemma · 21/05/2021 15:37

Magaret nn Maggie?
Martha
I've only even known Molly's to just be called Molly, it's fine as a name in its own right.

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 16:06

Look at names that were popular about 120 years ago - many are fashionable again. Then look at 110, 100 yrs ago, or even 200 years ago.

CaffiSaliMali · 21/05/2021 17:38

Molly is fine in it's own right I think. I quite like Margaret, lots of nicknames - Daisy, Peggy, Maggie...

Molly (or the less overused Polly) is short for Mary - if that’s too plain you could use it as a nn for Marianne or Rosemary etc

Rosalind, Rosamund
Alice, Alison
Anna nn Nancy, or just Nancy
Ellen / Eleanor nn Nell
Claire or Clara
Sybil
Sarah nn Sadie or Sally
Emma
Frances, nn Frankie if you like
Edith
Matilda
Cecily / Cecilia
Katharine nn Kate, Kitty
Jennifer nn Jennie
Maude
Joanna
Julia
Christina
Edwina
Agnes
Felicity
Ada

ILoveStickers · 22/05/2021 13:59

I'd use Molly on its own, or use it as a nickname for Maria.
