Hey everyone

I’m 22 weeks pregnant with our first child and we’ve really been struggling to agree on a name. I’d like a more unusual name but my partner isn’t always so sure.
Not many names have really stuck out for me but I stumbled across one I LOVE & every time I see it I want to choose it more - however when you combine it with my partners surname I think it sounds funny..

The name I love is Alba, the surname would be Bell
So Alba Bell

Is it too much of a mouthful with the B’s do you think? Am I overthinking it?

We would also have a middle name or even a double barrelled surname like Mae

Aurelia Bell
Anastasia Bell. Nn Naz /Nas.

Doesn’t flow well with the surname but if it’s the only one you’ve fallen in love with then go for it. As a pp as already said, it’s not like it makes a word, it’s just not the easiest to say (but not ridiculous).

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/05/2021 19:00

I think Alba Bell sounds fine. I think if you love it you should use it, it’s a punchy name which I much prefer over overly flowery.

Always irritates me when people give unsolicited advice about surnames, always comes across so high and mighty.

Foxglovers · 17/05/2021 19:24

It isn’t the best flowing name with the ‘b’ sounds but I don’t think it’s bad at all, if it were me and my favourite I would definitely use it!
I think Alba is a lovely, strong sounding name, I think adding Mae to it would take that away a bit... definitely keep it as it is!

partyatthepalace · 17/05/2021 19:42

Bell is a lovely surname

But yes Alba doesn’t work as a first name - what about Adelaide or Adeline? - they sound great with Bell.

DungeonKeeper · 17/05/2021 20:27

Mae is the just the default filler middle name for girls at the minute along with Rose and Grace. I think every other girl in the playground currently has it hyphenated. I don’t like Alba if I’m honest.no don’t think it goes with the surname, too many B’s.

Tillygetsit · 17/05/2021 23:04

Do you like Alma?

JemimaJoy · 18/05/2021 00:15

I had the same problem with Alba and my A/L-heavy surname. Alba Bell is a mouthful, you're right. How about Alma?

Reinventinganna · 18/05/2021 00:28

I really like it together!
I also really like the suggestion of it being short for Alberta.

PassGo · 18/05/2021 07:37

Alba Bell doesn't work IMO, but Alma Bell would be nice.

LittleTiger007 · 19/05/2021 10:49

I’m 39 +6 weeks pregnant and the girls name we love most just does not go with our surname at all. It’s sad... but it’s an important consideration and we have had to have a rethink.

TheVanguardSix · 19/05/2021 10:53

You're overthinking it, OP.
Go with your favourite name. Flowers

Pemba · 19/05/2021 13:52

Too many 'b' s too close together.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2021 14:03

How about Dora?

Cissyandflora · 19/05/2021 16:05

@KirstenBlest

How about Dora?
Yes that would be great!
PrincessesRUs · 19/05/2021 16:17

My surname is Bell - I feel your pain - I found it a real issue with girls names, anything with an Elle sound was out as it was too rhymey

DungeonKeeper · 19/05/2021 16:35

Dora Bell? As in adorable?

Redwinestillfine · 19/05/2021 16:38

It's fine. You're overthinking.

Mseddy · 19/05/2021 20:56

The name I love and my DH isn't so sure on is Alma. Similar to Alba but gets rid of the double b sound? I'm still working on my DH! It's my nans middle name and I love it

Notgotanyidea · 19/05/2021 21:38

Love Alba, how about Nova?
