Primrose or Lily-Rose

What do you think of Primrose and Lily-Rose?
I'm looking for a really pretty girls. I've grown up with a unisex name and hated it.
Currently my short list consists of Juliet, Violet and Eloise.
I also like Isabella but worried it will just be shortened to Issy or Bella (Bella doesn't go with the surname unfortunately). Like Isabel but worry there's too many spelling variations.

Thanks.

Violet, Juliet and Eloise are nice.

Primrose manages to be both twee and buttoned-up - it's not to my taste at all.

I also think Lily-Rose is overkill. Rose is nice on its own.

Undersnatch · 15/05/2021 07:34

I like Juliet and Violet from your list. Pretty without being frilly like primrose and lily-rose.

Ceepeee · 15/05/2021 07:39

I'm a little on the fence about Primrose. I think what I dislike about it is the hard first syllable sound. Certainly I'm not a fan of things double barrelled with -Rose. Why would you need to join two flower names together? Just use Lily or Rose separately. My favourite from your list is Eloise - really nice name.

Stevearnottsbeard · 15/05/2021 07:50

Really dislike primrose sorry. Love eloise out of the others on your list. I love Isabel too but I'm biased as it's my 12yr old's name 😍

Twatterati · 15/05/2021 07:50

I love, love, love Primrose.

Dozer · 15/05/2021 07:53

Like Primrose.

Dislike Lily-Rose: a mouthful, v much dislike lillies (the flowers) and seems indecisive!

RuthW · 15/05/2021 07:54

Primrose is lovely.

Branleuse · 15/05/2021 08:02

What about Rosemary

KelKachoze · 15/05/2021 08:08

Rosalie? Fits your 'pretty brief, and is similar to Lily-Rose without hyphenating.

Auxence · 15/05/2021 11:04

Primrose is beautiful! I also really like Juliet, Violet and Eloise.

How about Arabella?

Edenember · 15/05/2021 13:21

Between the two, definitely Primrose.

Of your other options, I prefer Eloise, then Juliet. I’m in a MN minority in really disliking Violet, it’s one letter away from violent and that takes away any prettiness for me.

Not keen on Isabell(a/e) or Isobel, but I like other lesser used, similar forms - Ishbel and Isabeau. Also quite like Arabella, although it’s very princessy.

ZoeMaye · 15/05/2021 13:47

I like Juliet, Violet and Eloise.
Primrose is nice, but I don't like the shortening Prim.
I am not a fan of hyphenated names but do like Lily Rose or Rose Lily as first and middle names, they generally make good middle names.

Juliet Rose or Juliet Lily
Violet Rose or Violet Lily
Eloise Rose or Eloise Lily

I also like Elodie, Eliana, Eleanor, Elora, Leonie, Liona. What about other Rose based names like Rosalie, Rosalind or Rosanna?

amallierory · 15/05/2021 13:58

Juliet, Violet, Eloise, Isabella, Isabel and Lily-Rose are all lovely. I can't stand Primrose though!

Suggestions:

Amber
Felicity
Maisie
Talia
Florence
Lola

NannyR · 15/05/2021 14:04

I love Juliet and Eloise, not keen on primrose and violet and Lily seems very popular at the moment. Rose as a first name is lovely, as are names like Rosalind or Rosanna.

KirstenBlest · 15/05/2021 14:52

What do you think of Primrose and Lily-Rose? Primrose too prim and Lily-Rose two flowers tacked together to make a naff name.

bluespanisheyes8916 · 15/05/2021 14:56

Thank you everyone.
Still struggling. I like names that are less likely to be shortened.
But also tend to use both first and middle name about 75% of the time (do with my son). His first and middle name both have just 2 syllables. Surname 1 syllable.
It's so hard to find 2 names that flow nicely together.
I do like Isabella, Arabella and Juliet but not sure if they might be a bit too long if I'm honest.
And nothing really seems to flow with Juliet that I could use on a day to day basis.

Violet, Eloise, Lilly-Rose are just so common today I’d personally avoid them. Primrose is nice, not popular. I even like short ending to Prim as it reminds me of Catnisses sister in the hunger games.

Other really pretty girls names, Flora, Florence, April, Lenore, Daisy, Penny. My DDs friend has a little sister called Penny, it’s really cute as every time my dd and her friends see her they say find a Penny pick her up and all they long we have good luck. They all cuddle her for luck, she loves it.

Ellmau · 15/05/2021 15:16

What about Amaryllis?

Or Rosalind goes well with Juliet.

Arrierttyclock · 15/05/2021 15:19

Primrose

daisypond · 15/05/2021 17:52

What about names that have been amalgamated out of two names a long time ago?
Julianne
Marianne.
Roseanne.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/05/2021 20:18

Juliet is gorgeous - so feminine, elegant and underused. Eloise is alright (although getting more popular because of all the other El - names).

But I'm not keen on your other choices sorry - Primrose ("Prim") is a clunky/dumpy name to me and Isabella and Violet are very popular/trendy. Lily Rose is bearable without the hyphen I suppose, just very "now" - I prefer simple Rose which is classic.

If you like ultra feminine sounding names, how about Christabel (can have the nn Kit/Kitty/Christy rather than Bella) or Lilia instead?

KirstenBlest · 15/05/2021 20:24

If you use two names for your DS (e.g. Daniel Matthew) do the same for DD. Don't use a hyphen as it is not conventional in the UK and people tend to disapprove.

Juliet Mary sounds nice. Mary is due for a comeback.

You have no control over others shortening or lengthening names - it just happens.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/05/2021 20:29

If you hate shortened names I'd consider using something shorter in the first place - like Lara, Cora, Nina etc. Having said that, I'm a Julia who has never had my name shortened so I don't think a Juliet automatically would either.

Or if you want to use the middle name too you could go for something like Rose with the middle name Anna - since Roseanna is a well known name it already flows well. Anna Maria/ Marie Anna would be the same, or Anna Sophia etc

jclm · 16/05/2021 15:59

Primrose - love it!!!
Lily-Rose - a bit too flowery, as both names are flowers
Juliet - beautiful, strong name
Violet - okay
Eloise - Nice name
Isabella - far too popular
Isabel - I prefer Isobel but again a bit too popular

SE13Mummy · 17/05/2021 09:10

If you think Bella doesn't go well with your last name then it's probably best to avoid using Arabella or Isabella because there's a chance either will be shortened. Thinking about it, of the girls I know (aged 16 and under) there are very few whose names don't get shortened at some point. Mary, Maya, Mia, Alice, Annie, Lucy, Phoebe, Kate, Darcey, Zara, Ruby, Leah, Sukie and Sadie seem to be about it.
