Bobbie, Rory or Teddie for a girl? Do you like?

Really not my cuppa at all. I belong in the only as diminutives camp. Bobbie/Bobby is truly dreadful.

newterritory · 10/05/2021 22:23

As long as you don't call her James. James is a traditional boys name. Really don't understand the recent trend for using it for a girl.

Brian?

Robyn?

I like Theodora, shortened to Teddy.

DelurkingAJ · 10/05/2021 22:54

I worked with Harry, short for Angharad and she pulled it off brilliantly.

JemimaJoy · 11/05/2021 00:11

I love Bobby as a nn for Roberta, Rory for Lorelei and Teddy for Theodora! Very cute! Also like Billy and Max for girls 😍 I'd choose Theodora though, it's lovely.

My fav is Bobbie I have a friend called Bobbie and she is lovely it really suits her I don't even really think of it as a boys name now I don't know any males called Bob Bobbie.

I also like Teddie for a girl not so keen on Rory that sounds more male to me

embolass · 11/05/2021 06:42

Go the whole hog with a Dave or Jimmy Grin

tiredteacher100 · 11/05/2021 07:01

How about Sheridan? works well for boys and girls

Crunchymum · 11/05/2021 16:57

Matilda (Matty)

Soubriquet · 11/05/2021 17:02

I know someone who has a dd called Bobbie

I was a bit Hmm when I first heard it but now it’s just her name

I’m sure the first female Jodie or Evelyn got a few funny looks but now it’s a girls name

Soubriquet · 11/05/2021 17:05

Her other dd is Frankie... made me wonder if she wanted boys instead of girls

Shutupyoutart · 11/05/2021 17:07

I like Teddy net keen on the others how about Frankie or Charlie?

Yutes · 11/05/2021 17:08

I really like Elliot. But I blame Scrubs for that!

notalwaysalondoner · 11/05/2021 17:08

I'm not a fan unless nicknames. e.g. Robbie Williams' daughter Theodora is known by Teddy, which is sweet. But I think it's pretty unfair to saddle a child with constantly being assumed to be the other gender without giving them the choice to be known by a name associated with their own gender.

notalwaysalondoner · 11/05/2021 17:09

Having said that, I love Jocelyn for a boy - it was a name of one of my great great uncles or something, but according to ONS is now exclusively used for girls - which is probably why I won't use it.

sibbys · 11/05/2021 21:25

Yes I LOOOOVE boys names for girls. My partner wouldn't let me though so we have 2 very girly names and one very masculine name for our son

percheron67 · 11/05/2021 21:45

great idea. My sons, Abigail, Rosemary and Barbara think it will be good for them.

partyatthepalace · 11/05/2021 23:56

Bobbie as short for Robin or Roberta
Or Teddie for Edwina or Theodora
Both yes - I wouldn’t use the nn as full names partly because v nicknamey and partly sounds like you wanted a boy, and also a full name gives her choices

Less keen on Rory - means red king and I think it’s very masculine. Also reminds me of that TV series although she was Rori as nn for Aurora. And thinking about it it’s super popular for boys right now so i wouldn’t

Theoldwoman · 12/05/2021 00:18

Definitely not. Boys for boys, girls for girls.

villamariavintrapp · 12/05/2021 07:58

Nah. Ok as nicknames. But otherwise a bit sexist.

Violetlavenders · 12/05/2021 08:51

I know females named Cameron, Stevie, Rory and Alex.

Daydrambeliever · 12/05/2021 14:26

How is it sexist?
