i love this name (for a girl) but dp isn't so sure. what dya think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Spied · 08/05/2021 17:05

I do think it's dated. On the plus side there are not likely to be any others in her class.

DinosaurDiana · 08/05/2021 17:06

For me it’s a boy’s name.

DramaAlpaca · 08/05/2021 17:07

I don't like it on a girl at all. I think of it as a boys' name.

AliceMcK · 08/05/2021 17:08

@Spied was thinking the dated thing too.

Very 80s but not necessarily a bad thing as there won’t be many others around. I have both male and female cousins called Ashley/Ashleigh.

Happycat1212 · 08/05/2021 17:09

Hmm I wouldn’t as I think most people will assume it’s a boys name

Iceniii · 08/05/2021 17:10

I like it for a girl or boy. I like unisex names.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 08/05/2021 17:11

Love it

partyatthepalace · 09/05/2021 08:49

No, sorry - I think it’s 80s, dated and downmarket.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 09/05/2021 08:56

I see it first as a boys’ name. Dislike it for a girl.

Candyapple49 · 09/05/2021 11:27

Lovely . I teach an 11 year old girl called Ashley . It’s a refreshing change from the more common names x

KirstenBlest · 09/05/2021 12:56

Dated and a little downmarket

Aisling/ aislinn would be a bit more feminine

Iwantanap · 09/05/2021 14:21

I would spell it Ashleigh for a girl. Ashley is boy's spelling. Might make life a bit easier for her

ThatIsMyPotato · 09/05/2021 14:47

Love it, I know a female Ashley so in my head it's a girls name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/05/2021 15:00

It's okay - but feels a touch 80's to me (along the lines of Kimberley, Hayley etc). I disagree with the pp - if you use it, I'd personally keep the "traditional" Ashley spelling as it is (there's not as many boy Ashley's about now as there used to be).

Asha feels a bit more contemporary? (although then there might be confusion with more popular boys Asher)

charliechew · 09/05/2021 15:14

I had Ashleigh ear marked as a possible name for our 5th dc, as we assumed it would be another girl (4 girls already). No 5 turned out to be boy. Still love the name though. You should go with the name that you and your partner like/agree on.

PainterInPeril · 09/05/2021 15:55

I love Ashley for a girl. In my head I associate it with Laura Ashley which I always thought was so elegant. I like it shortened to Ash too. I don't think it's dated at all.

monkeyted · 09/05/2021 16:00

I really like it for a girl. I don't see the spelling as automatically suggesting a boy, in fact I think it's much prettier than the Ashleigh spelling.

Arrierttyclock · 09/05/2021 17:25

I know a girl Ashleigh. I reallt don't like the name sorry

whatausername · 09/05/2021 17:31

So very dated to my ears. Nothing else wrong with it though.

Stevearnottsbeard · 09/05/2021 18:29

Love it 😍 😍

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/05/2021 22:16

Ashley is a boy to me too.

I love Aisling but it’s probably not usable without Irish heritage.
