I like it! Quite a few Nina’s here (Scotland) and all nice so has positive associations for me!

MooseMoose · 07/05/2021 13:25

Love it!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 07/05/2021 13:28

I love it! I wanted to use it but it doesn't work with our surname.

Nina Amelia sounds really nice.

NicolaDunsire · 07/05/2021 13:29

I like it. I don’t think it’s dated - when would it date to?

Just looked on darker greener, 159 babies called Nina in 1996, 345 babies called Nina in 2018.

DotDotDotDotDot · 07/05/2021 13:30

I really like Nina, it’s short, sophisticated and internationally known. Similar feel to Anna but more interesting, I say go for it.

DotDotDotDotDot · 07/05/2021 13:33

Just to add I don’t think it’s ever been popular enough to seem dated. The few Nina’s I’ve met over the years have been from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, which is another positive. Good luck.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 07/05/2021 14:02

@DotDotDotDotDot maybe dated isn't the right word... I do love it. I've only ever met two snd they were both lovely, it's one of the very few names DH and I agree on x

I like it and seems to be making a come back but i don't like it with Amelia, the two "a" sounds start to merge into one if you say it often enough.

partyatthepalace · 07/05/2021 14:22

I don’t think it’s dated but find it a bit nothing-y - it’s a nn really, for any name that ends ina (Katarina, Thomasina) or a nn for Anna sometimes.

Also agree w PP above that it doesn’t go well with Amelia, but if you used a full name you could solve that.

Mammymar · 07/05/2021 14:31

I like it.. My friend has loved Nina since we were 12 (now 40), always said if she had a girl she would call her Nina. It worked then and still works now, not dated or super modern.

Jen435 · 07/05/2021 14:32

I love it and would've used it if I was having a girl! Think it's really cool

pastawithsauce · 07/05/2021 17:12

I have a Nina! Obv. I like it and don't think it's dated. I think it's a "little black dress" kind of name it could suit anyone from any time, any place, any age, any class, any personality. Amelia is lovely too. A friend gave me a trick when choosing names say "You have to meet my friend [insert name here.]" I decided I really would like to have a friend called Nina.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 07/05/2021 17:18

@pastawithsauce aww I don't know anyone who's named their baby Nina! I was trying to work out if I could imagine a little baby Nina, 😍

Amelia, is a cert on the middle name as we are naming her after my grandmother and it means a lot to my grandpa. I do worry that Nina Amelia doesn't flow x

Love it. It's versatile. Feminine without being really cutesy.

pastawithsauce · 07/05/2021 17:24

I think Nina Amelia is lovely! And besides how often do people use both names? If it bothers you (and you still like Nina) you could use two middle names Nina Beatrice Amelia (or whatever use both grandmother's names maybe?)

AnxiousAnnie86 · 07/05/2021 17:26

@pastawithsauce you are right! We have a daughter already and her first and middle name end in A! Only just realised that! Think it's because the both start in M and end in A they flow but I think we've said her middle name about ten times in her life 😂

We are waiting to see what she looks like, I hope she looks like a Nina :) x

Nina is lovely - a quirky but elegant semi-classic that's not overused (and not at all dated - it's never been popular enough for that). Yes, the flow of Nina Amelia isn't great (there's a lot of "ee" and "ah" sounds) but that doesn't really matter imo (as middle names are usually only occasionally used).

Spied · 07/05/2021 18:39

I think Nina is lovely.

twiggytwoo · 07/05/2021 18:46

We liked Nina but was put off by the way if might be pronounced where we are - SE accent, Neeenahhhh.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 07/05/2021 20:34

Absolutely love it, also love Gina - both timeless, great names.

MadeOfStarStuff · 07/05/2021 20:45

Nina is lovely and classic, not dated at all

AnxiousAnnie86 · 07/05/2021 20:51

I'm so glad it's getting good feedback!!! It's making me like it even more!!

@Creamcrackersandricecakes I love Gina! But it's our cats name 😂

Here's a lovely Nina association.
Al Hirschfield was an American artist who was so pleased with his baby Nina, he hid her name in his drawings. Because of that, crossword buffs use Nina as a term for a hidden word or phrase in the completed crossword.
