Indecisive over girls names!

Just looking for some opinions.
We have sons Noah and Jacob (not chosen for biblical reference, we just loved both names).
We are surprised but delighted to be expecting a girl! We loved our boys names instantly after finding out the sex. But we can't seen to find a girls name we love and we feel we are doing her an injustice by not having her name sorted yet.
So I was just wondering what you thought of our 3 top contenders......

• Darcey
• Lily Rose (Lily Rose would be the first name, just without a hyphen because I don't like hyphens!)
• Harper (I worry this name is used more by "young trendy parents" and we are neither!)

Thank you

What about Rosalie? Incorporates the sounds of Rose and Lily while being a recognised name.

Darcey and Harper I think will both date.

If you like Rose and Lily, could Rosalind be a possibility?

SE13Mummy · 05/05/2021 00:50

I agree with others that the girls names give off a very different vibe from your boys' names. Rose or Rosa as a first name would work well, or Lily alone. Having a double barrelled first name minus the hyphen is setting your DD up for a lifetime of having to explain why she has two first names but they're written as a first and middle name.

Other names I think work with Noah and Jacob include...
Anna
Eliza
Lila
Lucy
Sadie

Lily is nice but I hate Lily Rose. That's just two flowers shoved together. I like Harper the best.

Edenember · 05/05/2021 07:39

Rose or Rosa followed by Lily. Don’t like the other two.

Edenember · 05/05/2021 07:40

Other pps suggestion of Eliza goes perfectly with Noah and Jacob.

Flymetothestars · 05/05/2021 07:41

I love both Lily and Rose but Lily Rose is not good, it's quite downmarket whereas Lily or Rose on its own is beautiful
Love Darcey and Harper
I wouldn't assume young parents with Harper. I would with "Lily Rose"

Marnie
Clara
Anya
Holly
Clementine

Lily or Rose from your list. Rosa is nice too.

Noah, Jacob and:
Lucy
Leah
Lydia
Layla
Lyra
Mara
Iris
Cassia
Eliza
Elsie
Ruby
Phoebe
Alice
Erin
Anna
Anya
Grace
Zoe
Isabel

I know you didn't want biblical but I think Leah and Lydia go well with Noah and Jacob.

Lalliella · 05/05/2021 11:29

Lily or Rose but please don’t put both together it’s a bit hmm how do I say this, downmarket? Especially with them both being flowers. Harper to me is a surname in my family so I wouldn’t choose it. Darcey is nice.

Lydia is gorgeous, is that biblical? I didn’t know.
FeedMeSantiago · 05/05/2021 13:04

@lalliella - I only found that out through mumsnet. Lydia of Thyatira is sometimes regarded as the first documented convert to Christianity in Europe.

It's one of those names which isn't obviously biblical, unlike Sarah or Rebecca for example.

partyatthepalace · 05/05/2021 13:14

Rose is lovely

But other than that they are all very fluffy and insubstantial compared to your sons’ names which is a bit hard on her (Lily ok but bit wet and weak - Harper and Darcy are made up and downmarket, as is the Lily Rose combo.)
If you like short names then..

Lois
Sylvie
Stella
Honor
Zoe
Phoebe
Laurel
Iris
Ines
Aisling (Ash-lin)
Caitlin
Frances
Cleo
Juno
Rosa
Chloe
Esme
Ellen

Rose

MercyBodle · 06/05/2021 07:23

Darcey from your list is my favourite.

JemimaJoy · 07/05/2021 00:14

Strong no to Lily Rose. It's just too much, too cutesy, no need for two flowers in one name. It will merge into a sea of Lily-Mae, Lexi-Rose, Evie-Rose, Lily-Raes. Nobody can hear that you didn't use the hyphen so it does sound like one of these type names.

Harper and Darcey just are SO different to Noah and Jacob. Noah and Jacob strong, classic, classy biblical names and Harper and Darcey modern and a bit faddy, will probably date badly. I'd choose Darcey if you must as it feels a tiny bit less faddy to me but I don't know why.

But a more classic name would be better to go with her brothers. Just Lily, or just Rose, or another flower like Violet, Iris, Ivy, would be lovely. Or something biblical would be perfect - Lydia, Tabitha, Esther, Junia, Anne/a?

I love Ottilie. You could shorten it to Tilly.
