Heston

I love this name but DH says we can't because of Heston Blumenthal. Isit an acceptable name or will he have a lifetime of being asked if he's named after the chef?

FWIW me and my husband are big foodies anyway and he's one of my favourite chefs so I don't think it's the worst person to be named after 🤷🏽‍♀️

Would you or wouldn't you?

Heston makes me think of Heston Services on the M4 before the chef.

ColonelPine · 04/05/2021 13:00

Heston makes me think of Heston Blumenthal. I like him, but I’m not personally very keen on the name.

Arrierttyclock · 04/05/2021 13:00

Ah that's interesting I've never heard of that! Another thing to consider

The name itself is not to my taste but fine. In reality though, I imagine the Heston Blumenthal reference coming up time and time and again. It’s not a bad association but anything coming up time and time again would get irritating.

kerkyra · 04/05/2021 13:27

I think of Charlton Heston, the actor

MooseMoose · 04/05/2021 14:00

He's the first person I thought of. I don't think it's a bad association, but I don't particularly like the name. Quite harsh sounding and no real option of a nn.

Enko · 04/05/2021 14:09

I love it like Hector too

BluePeterVag · 04/05/2021 14:26

I know a Heston. He’s 8. Really nice lad. At first I did think of Heston Blooming heck, but I think as time goes on he isn’t on the tv as much as he was, and that association will disappear.

conywarp · 04/05/2021 14:34

I really like Heston.

ILoveShula · 04/05/2021 17:35

Heston Services.

Charlton is better as it makes me think of Heston, and Jack and Bobby.

heartcake · 04/05/2021 17:43

Really like it

Amdone123 · 04/05/2021 17:50

Ooh, that's a new one. I think of Charlton, but I'm old.
I quite like it.

alexdgr8 · 04/05/2021 17:59

motorway service station.
not a good name.

Beforeiwasrichandfamous · 04/05/2021 18:25

I know a 30+ yr old man called Heston, after Charlton Heston. His brother is called Charlton.

In case you didn't know Charlton Heston was a Hollywood star in the 60's and 70's.

partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 19:28

It’s fine - no one will remember the chef when he’s older

devildeepbluesea · 04/05/2021 19:29

I know a Heston. Never been keen tbh. But the world would be a boring place if we were all called James and Mary.

Arrierttyclock · 05/05/2021 11:28

Thanks for the feedback! I'll leave it on the list for now. The other front runners are Hector and Ralph

Lalliella · 05/05/2021 11:33

I came on here to say no but actually in the last few seconds it’s grown on me! It’s a nice name.

Arrierttyclock · 05/05/2021 11:52

@Lalliella that was my first thought with it too I said no straight away then suddenly I thought ah actually I quite like it. It's a weird one

OP posts:
idontlikealdi · 05/05/2021 11:55

I really like it

Starstruck2021 · 05/05/2021 11:58

Young people won’t know Heston Blumenthal so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Not keen myself but miles better than Hector or Ralph which are really bad.

Violetlavenders · 05/05/2021 12:01

Heston is a great name. Classic and strong. And not common/overused.

I really dislike the meaning of to hector, not a great association.

YoniAndGuy · 05/05/2021 12:03

Eeek, too many associations for me... Heston Services came to mind first Grin

Hector is better I think, though am not a fan of Heck... but even less a fan of Hes/Hezza tbh...

Thurston?

Bananalanacake · 05/05/2021 12:15

I have a cousin with this name, he loves it as it's unusual.

KirstenBlest · 05/05/2021 12:32

Wasn't one of the Doctors (BBC1 soap) a Heston?
