Molly - smiley mum kind of average nurse/teacher maybe?
Juliette - musical family.
Charlotte - educated family
India - slightly more alternative. Maybe a village where they have names such as Willow and River.

This is not based on anything though - in reality the child's name will become associated with you!

ODFOx · 03/05/2021 10:32

How would I perceive the parents? Interesting question.
I think that my opinion would be shaped by how they pronounce Juliette. : soft J sound with hard Ette sound (unless one of them is french) I'd think slightly pretentious. Pronounced identically to Juliet I'd think they couldn't spell.

Otherwise they are perfectly nice names and I wouldn't think anything either way.

Thanks for the responses I was inspired by the previous threads!

Molly- unpretentious family. Lower MC. Large extended family. Sociable family.
Juliette- Pretentious ( sorry). Again, lower MC. Juliette is expected to do very well at school. Lots of after school clubs.
Charlotte- older parents. Quiet family. Charlotte is sensible like her parents. MC.
India- parents are aspirational. Unlikely they've ever been to India the country but they'd like you to think they have.
India is expected to be confident and quirky.
Parents expect great things.

Spied · 03/05/2021 10:45

Molly is my favourite.

TempsPerdu · 03/05/2021 11:04

First thoughts:

Molly - sparky and slightly tomboyish. Lower MC parents who are kind and supportive but have no pretensions. Happy family.

Juliette - slightly pretentious (Juliet fine though). Wanted a ‘girly girl’. Fairly middle of the road background, but with aspirations. Juliette is over-scheduled and weekends are spent ferrying her between various activities that she’s not all that keen on.

Charlotte - bland and inoffensive; could be any background really. Parents value tradition, play it safe and don’t like to rock the boat.

India - parents like to think they’re sophisticated and well travelled but haven’t left Essex for years. Grin Possibly a bit of a nightmare at school. Has her own popular YouTube channel and Insta account before she’s a teenager.

Cheeryblossom1 · 03/05/2021 11:05

Spied Molly is my favourite too, regret not using it for dc2, it's not very common in our neck of the woods either...

Molly and Charlotte - mum has a plain, straight, brown bob and dad spends weekends cycling and being grumpy.

Juliet - same but interested in literature and classical music

India - same but they went to India once 😄

Sorry!

Bluesername · 03/05/2021 16:22

Molly - a bit 'ditsy' but friendly and reliable
Juliette - elegant, arty, introvert
India - pushy, annoying, loud, boastful
Charlotte - supervisor at work, no extreme views on anything

MooseMoose · 03/05/2021 16:37

Charlotte - nice enough, bit dull, royalist
Molly - friendly, unpretentious, fun
Juliette - aspirational, lots of extra curricular activities, expect food grades
India - see themselves as a bit boho / hippy, never actually been to India, shockingly bad understanding of history and a general lack of self-awareness (sorry, that was a bit scathing...)

HarkAVagrant · 03/05/2021 16:40

Molly - independent, strong minded, sensible, likes animals
Juliette - dreamy, artistic, willowy, plays the cello
Charlotte - there's so many Charlottes that it is hard to say with that one
India - stroppy, posh, likes to tell you about her gap yah and the tattoo she got abroad

Couldn't tell you about the parents!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/05/2021 17:31

Molly - down to earth parents, outdoors loving type, lower to middle class.
Juliette - with that spelling, French parents or living in a French speaking country, middle to upper class, possibly arty.
Charlotte - classic and popular so no stereotype of parents apart from they are probably sensible/no -risk taking types.
India- middle to upper class, probably well educated, possibly hippy/bohemian sorts.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/05/2021 17:42

India - see themselves as a bit boho / hippy, never actually been to India, shockingly bad understanding of history and a general lack of self-awareness (sorry, that was a bit scathing...)

But use of the name India (derived from the river Indus admittedly) predates British occupation of the country? And a lot of parents also use it because of Gone with the Wind (I don't have any stakes in this personally - I've never met any India's!)

Teeshirt · 03/05/2021 17:52

Molly - parents who think “cute” is a good thing.
Juliette -parents who think the French spelling is “prettier”.
Charlotte-parents who think it has class and tradition.
India-ignorant, culturally tone-deaf parents.

None of them are great.

mindjam · 03/05/2021 18:00

I won't stereotype but I'll tell you what I know

Molly- only girl in the family, they come across as working class (in terms of jobs) but they have money and a 5 bed house in the country.

Charlotte- both families well off and both Charlottes are musical and well educated

Juliette - I don't know them very well but mum is lovely and chatty. Juliette is very sporty.

India- parents are separated, mum is an artist and yoga instructor (who actually makes money), dad works on movie sets. Surprisingly they have been to India, mum did yoga training there.

ivykaty44 · 03/05/2021 18:05

Molly - grown up and is now a know it all along with rather rude and arrogant

Charlotte, very straight laced, black and white no grey, not particularly pleasant but not horrid

Juliette, really friendly and lifts the mood, kind thoughtful and all round good egg

no idea what the parents are like as these are all grown up

don't know anyone with the other names

Haffdonga · 03/05/2021 18:10

Molly - one of the youngest of large family (parents had used up their favourite names). Happy kid, middle of the range academically and good at sport
Juliette - sensitive, writes poetry, parents have high expectations of their dc and pay for lots of extra curricular and tutors. She's not always happy
Charlotte - kind, clever and hardworking but she's going to get up to all sorts when she's a teen without her parents or teachers knowing
India - parents are in an unhappy relationship and bicker a lot which makes India unhappy and she takes it out on her friends by being a bit mean. Her teacher describes her as 'easily distracted'

Disclaimer: None of these stereotypes mean anything and they are all lovely names

ThatIsMyPotato · 03/05/2021 18:47

I wouldn't. I think it's wrong to assume about people because of their name. They are all nice names.

MooseMoose · 03/05/2021 19:30

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Possibly. I still think the majority of Indias would be named after the country. Personally, I think it's inappropriate unless you have particularly strong links to the country, but that's just my opinion. It's a pretty name otherwise.
HappyHa · 04/05/2021 12:09

Molly - there's a mum of a Molly at DSs school who is known to go on mad cocaine binges and is often coated in fake tan — which wouldn't be so bad but the problem is she's a materialistic mean girl. So it's hard to get that image out of my head but I think if it wasn't for her I'd picture a single mum, sweet, lower MC and artsty.
Juliette — aspiring MC or upper MC. Can't imagine much else.
India — either a box blonde with a flashy car or a hippy type (thinking white female) with dreads

partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 19:40

Juliet - middle class, arty, intellectual (Juliette - + French heritage)
Molly - not super posh, but otherwise could be anything
Charlotte - posh or middle class, traditional, normcore
India - Unless you have Indian heritage I wouldn’t use this. Is very colonial on a white Brit (whether it’s Raj or hippy trail inspired)

Molly - slightly all over the place, ramshackle family.

Juliette - conservative provincial family, rather dull. Dad policeman, mum dental nurse.

India - dippy hippy Sloane parents or Brighton/Glastonbury alt culture.

Flymetothestars · 07/05/2021 16:28

Molly I really love. I don't think I'd have any preconceptions
I don't like other two names
