Noah or Thatcher?

We are naming our DS Noah, but we have always loved Thatcher, but we both agreed it's a bit out there and I just wondered what you would have chosen?

Noah or Thatcher? Older DS is Jude.

OP posts:

Noah. Thatcher isn't a name.

cookiecreampie · 03/05/2021 09:29

@honeybee95

Yes I want opinions, but the people saying don't call your child that, or surely there's more options...I've already said we are calling him Noah 🙄
Why bother with the thread then?

You want opinions.... but only if you like the sound of them??
BrutusMcDogface · 03/05/2021 09:31

Exactly! What a completely pointless thread.

villamariavintrapp · 03/05/2021 09:33

Thatcher is unuseable in uk, even if you were a massive fan of Margaret Thatcher, and I assume you must be to even consider this, it's just not fair to burden your child with a name that has such deeply unpleasant connotations.

YoniAndGuy · 03/05/2021 09:35

You are absolutely right.

Except for the bit about it still being a nice name- it’s not, it’s a harsh, impersonal word which doesn’t make a good name at all... no warmth, it doesn’t roll off the tongue. Particularly dislike it when boy names are something like this - actively hard and harsh.

Teeshirt · 03/05/2021 09:35

This is a pointless thread. You’d already chosen Noah.

Arrierttyclock · 03/05/2021 09:38

Very different names! I don't really like Noah as every other child is either called Noah or Oliver but Thatcher has grown on me since I first read it. I deff prefer it to Noah. I live in the south west so everyone would say Fatcher as well so don't know if that's a consideration

Arrierttyclock · 03/05/2021 09:39

Oh damn sorry I just read the thread 🤦🏽‍♀️

RichPetunia · 03/05/2021 09:42

Thank goodness you are calling him Noah. Thatcher’s just B-A-D.

Twinkie01 · 03/05/2021 09:47

Thatcher is appalling, I know one and his grandma and grandpa literally cringe when the introduce him.

RevolvingPivot · 03/05/2021 10:05

Jude is nice. Too many Noah's at my kids school.

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 03/05/2021 10:08

You made the right choice. Politics aside, Thatcher is pronounced Fatcha where I live which is not pretty.

I’m not a great fan of occupational surnames as given names but at least e.g. Fletcher and Cooper relate to largely extinct crafts. There is still a lot of demand for skilled thatchers in many parts of the country and using an extant occupation as a name is just that bit closer to calling your child Plumber or Doctor.

GreenEyedDevil · 03/05/2021 10:41

Noah

DramaAlpaca · 03/05/2021 16:36

As everyone says, a big No to Thatcher. I thoroughly dislike Noah, it's a whiny sort of name, but anything's better than Thatcher.

On a positive note, Jude is a great name.

Edenember · 03/05/2021 21:13

Just couldn’t do Thatcher for the glaringly obvious reason. So would have to be Noah. There are other -er names I kind of like, Asher and Archer, although I’d never use myself. But Thatcher has too much behind it and would get instant ribbing, even hostility where I’m from.

partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 20:23

Noah is great

Thatcher - no, deffo not.

ThatIsMyPotato · 05/05/2021 06:57

Why are we here?

merryhouse · 05/05/2021 10:44

Pretty certain a Thatcher growing up now wouldn't be called anything to do with milk snatching.

Unless your circle of middle-aged and old adults is particularly immature and cruel?

(don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a good idea for a name, but none of the child's peers will have any idea)

Where I live some people spit when they say her name. She didn't only snatch the milk she took the heart and soul of some communities who are still paying.

I know this is a bollocks thread but it's worth saying just in case anyone really considers it.

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 05/05/2021 19:19

When he's 5 his peers will no idea of any baggage surrounding the name Thatcher (kids are very accepting of names), but by the time he's 20 they will. A name is for a lifetime, not just childhood. Would be awful to inflict such a politically charged name on someone.

Go with Noah.

TurquoiseDress · 06/05/2021 13:02

Noah!

The other just reminds me of Margaret Thatcher

JemimaJoy · 06/05/2021 14:54

Jude and Noah are lovely together!
