Ottilie vs Sophie vs Claudia for baby girl?

We’ve narrowed our names list for baby girl due at the end of the summer down to Ottilie, Sophie and Claudia. Thoughts on the three names? We already have a Hugo and an Arabella.

Of the remaining two, Eloise works well with the sibset to me. Clara is too close to the Claudia due to the matching "Cla"- but Lara would be nice and is a similar style to the rest of your childrens names imo .

Clara is more the right style, but I wouldn’t want the repeated Cl in two girls’ names. Eloise is a slightly different style of name to me, though it’s OK. Louisa?

icecream2929 · 02/05/2021 20:49

Not a huge fan of Louise/a but definitely agree with you about Eloise being a different style. We’ve always loved it but it’s never felt quite right alongside our other kids names.
We love Clara so would be interested in whether people think Clara or Claudia is more elegant/classy/sophisticated (which is the style of name we typically love).
Any suggestions of names in that category are very very welcome!!!

Personally, I think Claudia is the more elegant/classy name, compared to Clara, which I don’t greatly care for.

Dinosauraddict · 02/05/2021 21:11

I love Ottilie and Sophie. Don't like Claudia personally, but think that's because all I can think is Claudia Winkleman!

serin · 02/05/2021 22:17

I loved Ottilie.
Clara is lovely too though.
Go with what you love OP, don't be put off by us randomers.

partyatthepalace · 02/05/2021 22:33

Claudia is fabulous

Sophie is nice but way overused

Ottilie is just too flipping fussy

partyatthepalace · 02/05/2021 22:34

Claudia more sophisticated than Clara, and less popular so I’d stick with Claudia.

partyatthepalace · 02/05/2021 22:36

Other thoughts - Cassia, Adela

Ellmau · 02/05/2021 22:43

Sophie and Claudia. Ottilie is a bit too German.

AlmostSummer21 · 02/05/2021 22:50

Claudia

Eloise for the next one. It goes lovely with the other names.

Matilda?
Elodie?

Fauvist · 03/05/2021 00:15

Eloise is genuinely terrible. Just no. Clara is lovely.

MercyBodle · 03/05/2021 00:59

Claudia is great and goes perfectly with your kids' names. I dislike Ottilie. Sophie is fine.

I much prefer Claudia over Clara - can't put my finger on why . I don't think either of them is particularly more classy or sophisticated... perhaps Claudia as it's more rarely chosen and has stronger sounds.

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 03/05/2021 01:01

Claudia by a mile.

sunflowertulip · 03/05/2021 01:04

Sophie I love and don't know many little ones and I really like Clara too. Claudia is ok. Dislike the others.

Saltyslug · 03/05/2021 01:13

Cara

Clarice

Ginandplatonic · 03/05/2021 01:23

Claudia is great and I prefer it to Clara. I wouldn’t use two Cla__a names.

I think Eloise goes fine with your other names if you live it - but Eleanor is my favourite El- name.

Others I think are in the same category (elegant, classy and slightly underused)
Clementine
Antonia
Octavia
Genevieve
Helena

I have a toddler called Claudia. I absolutely love the name and have not regretted it for a second. She calls herself Claudie (so we all call her that now) which I also love. I have had a lot of really positive feedback on her name. We wanted something elegant and classic that would stand the test of time. I haven't come across any other claudias. I was hesitant when pregnant as the band meaning isn't great but decided for us it didn't matter, and I'm so glad we chose it. If of interest, Other names I think go well with your other children are:
Lydia
Alice
Penelope
Eliza
Tabitha

I hope this helps xxxx

notangelinajolie · 09/06/2021 02:30

Sophie beautiful
Ottilie also beautiful
Claudia clumpy

SoapboxFox · 09/06/2021 07:13

Claudia goes really well with the others.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/06/2021 08:02

Claudia is lovely. Also Olivia or Livia. Roman names are by definition classic! Doris, anyone?

ILoveShula · 09/06/2021 09:19

Sophie

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 09/06/2021 09:20

Please, please not ottillie

TatianaBis · 09/06/2021 10:37

I’ve always loathed Claudia - find it really ugly.

Prefer Clara.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/06/2021 11:07

Sophie is lovely!
