Describe the parents and children of Catherine, Darcy and Suzanna

Hi on the back of another thread I thought I’d try with these names. What are the parents of these children like and what do you envisage the children themselves will be like?

I don't know, but my first thought was how Catherine and Suzanna go really well together, but Darcy doesn't fit. Darcy is much more modern, whereas Catherine and Suzanna are classic, so I think as a set of sibling names it feels quite strange.

The parents chose two standard-issue classic names and one that’s often considered rather more downmarket? I don’t think you can surmise anything else from that information. You certainly can’t tell anything about the children unless you think that being called Catherine somehow determines your fate and personality, surely.

Old also need to factor in when these children were named — some name choices would have been far more surprising in the past, or vice versa. Calling your child Gary now is a much more surprising decision than it would have been in 1980.

Catherine - middle class, traditional types
Susannah - middle class, any type (Suzanna is a weird spelling)
Darcy - downmarket name so probably not middle class

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 01/05/2021 10:51

I'd think they were probably perfectly nice people but a bit boring tbh.

riotlady · 01/05/2021 10:57

Middle class, do ballet, wear a lot of neutral colours

Lampzade · 01/05/2021 10:57

Trying hard to be ‘upper middle class’ - Catherine and Suzanna.
However the name Darcey gives the game away and they are decidedly ‘lower middle class’

Btw- this is not necessarily my opinion

Onlinedilema · 01/05/2021 11:02

I was thinking more of individual families rather than one family.

I would be unable to get past sniggering at Arsey Darcy.

lljkk · 01/05/2021 11:19

Catherine is one I like so clever, confident, capable parents obviously. ;-)

Suzanna has idealistic parents who want her to be frilly & beautiful, maybe sensible too but not very practical.

Darcy - probably lower MC or working class, tbh. Take crap from no one.

I fervently believe kids make names their own, in reality. I knew a council-housed lady with few teeth, multiple ex-partners, lots of tattoos (including names of her DC, of course), likely alcoholism (& my fervent belief heroin addiction). Naturally her many children all had names like Edward, Sophie, James, Elizabeth...

Adventing · 01/05/2021 12:50

Darcy doesn't quite fit, she's definitely the wild middle child Grin

TheMarzipanDildo · 01/05/2021 12:53

Since when has Darcy been “downmarket”? My first thought was Darcy Bussell. So I imagine a ballerina.

Spied · 01/05/2021 13:00

Catherine- traditional, middle class, value education. Named after a much-loved relative. Safe. Well-behaved.
Suzanna- Older parents. Retro. Traditional working class. Suzanna comes from a large family.
Darcy- Working class, younger parents. Parents will ensure Darcy has the 'cool' tracksuit and the best phone. They aspire to the celebrity culture.

stodgystollen · 01/05/2021 13:08

Suzanna secretly hates her parents for trying to give a younique update
to a dated name that she has to spell out every single time. She's given up and now goes by Su, which her parents secretly think is horribly bland and sounds like a secretary.

LegoPoliceman · 01/05/2021 13:12

Darcy- Only child, very self contained, possibly struggles making friends. Quite sensible. Affectionate parents but maybe quite reserved. Collects things.

I'll be honest, I know so many Catherine and Suzanna's (with various spellings for each) and there isn't really any pattern of personality so I'd find the names quite hard to typify.

minniemomo · 01/05/2021 13:14

Two are classics but darcy is trying to be posh (pretending you are into ballet) when actually you watch strictly.

I'm a right name snob so not the best to askGrin. My kids have biblical names, avoids the class issue altogether (we are cat a on the socioeconomic chart thing)

KirstenBlest · 02/05/2021 14:20

Catherine - sensible
Darcy - downmarket
Suzanna - can't spell

KirstenBlest · 02/05/2021 14:23

@TheMarzipanDildo, it was a man's name or a surname until Ms Bussell became famous, so is surname-as-firstname and celebrity-inspired. Definitely downmarket. It isn't Ms now Dame B's real first name. I think it's awful.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/05/2021 14:34

I couldn't describe what the kids would likely be like (after all they didn't choose their names!), but I'd guess the parents of:

Catherine - likely to be non risk takers, middle to upper- class, well educated, probably in "professional" jobs.

Darcy - likely working to middle class, probably young, maybe hipster.

Suzanna - parents are likely to be older (as I think the Z spelling is a bit dated), probably middle class, maybe a bit arty.

I like both Catherine and Susanna/Susannah (when spelt this way) - they are classic, elegant names.

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 14:55

I wouldn't envisage anything of the children as they didnt choose their names!

The parents I would think probably English speaking.
