Daphne?

My current top name is Phoebe, but Daphne has just popped into my head - what are people's opinions on the name? I think it's quite sweet, but I live in the north west and worry it would end up sounding a bit like 'Daphne Moon' from Frasier (though that is one of my favourite shows!)

I like it. I know one Daphne who is 8 and the name really suits her. Girly but individual and slightly quirky with a great sense of humour. Never seen Frasier so can't comment on the link there. If you like it, be confident in your choice 😊

MondeoFan · 28/04/2021 22:51

I like it, it has a great sound to it. Don't know any and I work with children aged under 5

Fromneverland · 28/04/2021 22:52

Nooooo
Sounds like daftie
And her from the broons

LawnFever · 28/04/2021 22:53

I really like it, very underused and a lovely name

freedles · 28/04/2021 22:54

Lovely name

Sall23 · 28/04/2021 22:59

Thanks for your comments. The other issue is that DD1 is called Nia and I think they may sound too similar?

Lovely but makes me think of the story of Apollo and Daphne, which is not a happy one

brizzlewizzle · 28/04/2021 23:00

Suspect there will be a few Daphnes around after Bridgerton. It's nice though

Cbd333 · 28/04/2021 23:03

@Sall23 this is so strange, Phoebe is my top name and I thought of Daphne today too! I think Daphne is super pretty but I worry about the shortening to Daf / Daffy

Interesting. I haven't seen Bridgerton...

I personally wouldn’t use Daphne and Nia together. Also depends where you live - I’m West Coast of Scotland and wouldn’t use Daphne as the most common insult here is to be a “wee daftie” 🙄 I know she’d get Daphne the Daftie at school because kids are horrors 😅😅 Phoebe is a beautiful name, I’d go with that ❤️
Saltyslug · 28/04/2021 23:09

Like it. Also like Delphine

hazandduck · 28/04/2021 23:09

Daphne and Phoebe are both favourites of mine too, lovely names. I think they are similar because of the ‘f’ sound, it makes them both soft?

I know a baby girl named Daphne and they call her Daffy! Which I think is actually really cute 🙈

Cindie943811A · 28/04/2021 23:12

Daphne blossom is beautiful but I’d be put of by the shortening to Daf or Daffy.
And you’re right Daphne doesn’t go well with Nia with the repetition of the nee sound.
If I were you I’d stick to Phoebe

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2021 00:10

I adore Daphne, always have.

In your situation, Phoebe goes better with Nia.

MercyBodle · 29/04/2021 04:39

Daphne is okay, but I prefer Phoebe, and Phoebe goes better with Nia.

partyatthepalace · 29/04/2021 08:27

I find it a bit wet - makes me think of Daffy Duck. But it’s Ok, Bridgerton will probably make it more popular

Scarydinosaurs · 29/04/2021 08:29

I have loved Daphne for ages. And Delphine too. And Persephone. I think I just like the ph sound.

toastofthetown · 29/04/2021 08:58

I like Daphne, and as Phoebe is your top comhoice, I assume that popularity isn’t really a concern. I prefer Daphne to Phoebe, as I’m a bit tired of hearing Phoebe. It’s worth noting that Daphne has been rising very quickly in England and Wales over the last ten or so years without the Bridgerton effect, and I think it has the potential to explode into the top hundred over the next few years. It’s been popular on name forums for a while now, so Bridgerton could be the catalyst to break out, in the way Phoebe did, interestingly enough.

DennisTMenace · 29/04/2021 09:02

Love Daphne and also haven't watched Bridgerton. I think you will say Nia and Daphne, not Daphnie and Nia, so the n's won't be together. Also, they will grow up to have independent lives, so not always be said together.

EweandI · 29/04/2021 09:03

Love it! The flower is beautiful too

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/04/2021 09:05

It's a nice name, but it reminds me of Scooby Doo.

Mamamamasaurus · 29/04/2021 10:11

I have a Phoebe (middle name) and I LOVE it

DinosaurDiana · 29/04/2021 10:12

I prefer Daphne to Phoebe. I know of quite a few Phoebes.

RuthW · 29/04/2021 12:16

Lovely
