Thoughts on the name Harmony, I think it's quite sweet but not sure if it's a bit dated?
Thanks

Definitely first thing that comes to mind is the NIPT test, sorry OP!

DifferentHair · 27/04/2021 15:22

Do you like Melody?

sorryforswearing · 27/04/2021 15:25

I think of the Harmony hair spray ad too. Two people having a debate saying ‘That girl’s wearing Harmony hairspray’. I prefer Melody and if/when it’s shortened I really like Mel.

bh9i · 27/04/2021 15:29

For some reason I don't like Melody as much, I'm not sure why.

I thought Buufy / Angel.

But then a friend has a Cordelia and a Connor so don't let that put you off.

legalseagull · 27/04/2021 15:34

I don't hate it, but it is a bit tacky. Not a name I'd want as an adult woman. She'd constantly be asked if she can sing/play an instrument - which might get old quickly

SageRosemary · 27/04/2021 15:35

I'd like to teach the world to sing
in perfect harmony,
grow apple trees and honey bees .....

Melody is lovely, and I once met an Allegra - a very nice musical woman

Elouera · 27/04/2021 15:39

I wrongly assumed this thread was about the Harmony test too, then realised it said baby names! Not a fan, but its not my baby.

rubydoobydoo · 27/04/2021 15:45

Makes me think of the book "The Queen's Nose" - the main character was called Harmony and had a sister named Melody.

brogo · 27/04/2021 15:47

I like it. I used to watch a children's TV series in the 90s called The Queen's nose. The main character was called Harmony Parker and I thought she was so cool, the name always stuck with me!

brogo · 27/04/2021 15:47

@rubydoobydoo snap!

Beetlewing · 27/04/2021 15:51

Harmony Korine - indie film director

Lemoncurtain · 27/04/2021 15:51

Like PP my first thought was The Queen's Nose! Think it's a lovely name though although probably a bit too hippy-ish for me to use

LactoseTheIntolerant · 27/04/2021 15:56

I quite like it. How about Honour or Hope as alternatives but along the same theme.

ILoveShula · 27/04/2021 16:07

Is she or isn't she?

Where there is discord, may we bring harmony.

bh9i · 27/04/2021 17:44

Thanks everyone, I think the consensus is that it isn't awful but isn't great either, it also seems to have an impressive number of associations! I think someone said it was quite hippyish and that's why I was considering it as I usually have very conservative taste in names and thought this was perhaps a bit fresher, but I think it's back to the drawing board.

I love the name! Harmony is beautiful and very unique without being 'try hard'. I think it's a name a person would really love throughout life and appreciate having.

Harmony Korine comes to mind... male, but he's a well-respected director from my native California.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 27/04/2021 17:57

I think of the queens nose. Love it!

ILoveShula · 27/04/2021 19:53

Captain Scarlett

notacooldad · 27/04/2021 20:21

Honestly op if you like the name choose it.
Once people know your child associations fade away.
I had this with every name I came up with. People would find a reason not to call a child that, even common place names like George and Jack!!
One of my sons is called Carter. He is 25 and you would have thought the sky was going to come in when I named him. However he is 25cand not been bullied or mocked and hikes his name.
Going back a generation sane thing happened with me and my sisters names. Everyone told mum and dad we would be bullied for our 'new fangled' name.
Here i am at 56 and no issues.
I work with teens and some have old fashioned names like Vera, Mabel, Jennifer and Sally.
Others have more 'newer' ones ( even though they have been around for ever) such as Trinity, Harmony, Precious, Harlow,Merrcedes and so on.
No one cares!
Pick the name that works for your family.

Viviennemary · 27/04/2021 20:22

Its dire. It was a hair dye once. Amongst other things.

partyatthepalace · 27/04/2021 20:25

It’s a bit 90s/noughties US telly - buffy and that actor. It’s thus slightly dated and a wee bit naff... but it’s sweet too. If you really like it I’d use it.

Puffalicious · 27/04/2021 20:26

Cecile/ Cecilia is the patron Saint of music if you want a musical name?
