Just that really - Have you heard it before? What do you associate it with, if anything? Do you like it?

Would ALS really appreciate knowing what region you're from if you don't mind sharing.

Thank you!

I'm English but have lived in Wales for the last couple of decades. I don't know any young Anwen's but it's a lovely classic sounding Welsh name imo- that's easily pronounced by English speakers. I also like it has 2 very different style nn options in Annie or Wenna (if she wants one).

NiceGerbil · 23/04/2021 23:18

Lovely.

Do you have connections to Wales?

People will ask!

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2021 23:20

Pretty name, but does make me think of Arwen from Lord of the Rings.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 23/04/2021 23:20

Anwen - very beautiful. I think it is a really lovely name. I'm from West Wales.

XYZXYZ · 23/04/2021 23:21

Never heard of it before. But I read it as "And when" but that might just be my dyslexia.

SionnachRua · 23/04/2021 23:21

Ireland. I think it's a pretty name. My mind instantly jumps to "oh like Arwen and LOTR".

Excited101 · 23/04/2021 23:23

I’d also be waiting for the rest of the sentence ‘an when...’

CroydianSlip · 23/04/2021 23:23

I like it, and like Arianwen even more.

I'm as boringly English as they come but I LOVED The Snow Spider trilogy as a child and have had a soft spot for Welsh names from there.

ArosGartref · 23/04/2021 23:24

Anwen used to be my favourite Welsh name. Since replaced with Annest.

Dwi'n bye yng Nghymru.

howmanyhats · 23/04/2021 23:25

Love it. (English with Welsh heritage).

nocoolnamesleft · 23/04/2021 23:27

Pretty, but I'd probably wonder if it was a misspelling of Arwen.

DilysPrice · 23/04/2021 23:27

Lovely. Can’t see any problems with it in England either apart from LOTR fans in a hurry reading or as Arwen.

FontyMcFontface · 23/04/2021 23:27

North Wales. Cymraeg.

Pretty name, slightly old fashioned but not in a bad way, more classic.

hedgehogger1 · 23/04/2021 23:28

Makes me think of the snow spider

Smeds · 23/04/2021 23:30

My daughter's middle name 😊

User65412 · 23/04/2021 23:34

Have taught a couple in the last few years - lovely name! I'm in the West Midlands and the ones I've taught haven't had a Welsh connection.

autumnboys · 23/04/2021 23:35

I’ve got a lovely friend by that name so she would be my immediate thought/. I think it’s pretty.

CatRamsey · 23/04/2021 23:38

I'm in Wales and I've heard of the name but never met one. I think it's pretty Smile

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 23/04/2021 23:41

I know 2 19 year olds -in Yorkshire but as far as I know neither has close links with Wales

I went to school with one of their mum's and the other one went to 6th form with my DS

They don't know each other

Blondiney · 23/04/2021 23:41

Twee.

MrsCalypsoGrant · 23/04/2021 23:47

I know an Anwen of about 8, growing up in the north of England to Welsh parents. I think it's a lovely name.

My daughter is Anna, her two best friends are Annie & Annabel, there was a definite theme when we all had girls!

CakesOfVersailles · 24/04/2021 03:19

Makes me think of my (former) Welsh neighbour. Lovely name, only ever met one Anwen.

MercyBodle · 24/04/2021 03:19

Beautiful name! I know of it but have never met one.

CoalCraft · 24/04/2021 03:35

Yes, DH and I are both Welsh, living in Wales. One of the things I wanted a litmus test on was whether it was still a "Welsh name" first and foremost, since some have escaped that and become more widespread (e.g. Rhiannon), but it's hard for us to know from within Wales.

Guess it does still very much scream "I am Welsh!" then. Obviously nothing at all wrong with being Welsh but a part of me would rather people not be distracted by that on first meeting. It's so pretty though.

Hmm, must keep pondering.

I love it - it has fond connections for me as I adore the Anwen we know. My daughter's friend. Her family are Welsh.
