Love it, a classic which is currently underused and has a fiesty feel about it but can be softened with using Katie occasionally. It's one of the only short names where I genuinely don't think it needs the longer version (Katherine in this case) on the birth certificate

Edenember · 22/04/2021 10:48

Kate is lovely.

Gazelda · 22/04/2021 11:02

I've got a Katharine, we use Katie day to day. She's 14 now and we were talking about her name the other day.
She loves it. It's not too common (top 200 at moment) but equally not too unusual. She likes that she has options for how to shorten it.

Amdone123 · 22/04/2021 11:31

@Gazelda, my niece was going to be Katherine or Olivia. My sister opted for Olivia. She is now a beautiful 25year old. She obviously owns and suits her name, but she has often said Katherine would have been better !

I love it! Such a strong name and unusual right now - though do prefer as a nn for Katharine etc so she has options.

Deffo nothing like being called Sue or Coli... it's a classic

I like Katie for a little girl and maybe Kate when she’s older. I’m obsessed with Kate Middleton so anything associated to her is good to me 😂

TatianaBis · 22/04/2021 18:00

Kate Winslet, Cait Blanchett, Kate Middleton, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Moss, Kate Hudson, Kate Bosworth.

Bit dated possibly but not unusual.

Flymetothestars · 22/04/2021 18:39

@partyatthepalace I more meant because kate is a name that a lot of the next generation's mums will be called. So a child born in 2021 called Kate is likely to be the only Kate at the school but with 30% of the parents having the name. All the Kates they come across are likely to be 30 years older than them. So a bit like a child being called Susan or Philip at school in the 80s if that makes sense.
Nothing wrong with that though! Nice name.

ProperVexed · 22/04/2021 18:50

I'm a Katharine. Was always called Katy as a child but chose to become Kate at 18 as felt it was more grown up. I like it...very versatile.

MercyBodle · 24/04/2021 13:23

I love Kate. Feels strong and timeless to me.

Adventing · 24/04/2021 13:58

Lovely classic name, I like it best I think with Katherine on the bc but could also work as a stand alone name. Other names with a similar feel could be,

Ellen
Clara
Erin
Beth
Alice
Rebecca
Rachel
