Hey just wondered if I could have some ideas on unusual boy names! I like names with 2 syllables or more 🤣

OP posts:

I went through historic lists - for DS1 I have a name that's unusual, but not hard to spell for an English person. DS2 wasn't quite so lucky, but it shortens to a common name if he ever needs it.

My only advice is wait as long as you can. I think that you can see if a name suits a child after a bit!

How unusual? You can look up the popularity of names each year online and go as far down this list as you want. I opted for a name ranked around 250th in popularity (so not very) but it’s a name that everyone knows. So it’s unusual but people do generally seem to like it I think it’s just never been overly popular as the anglicised version of it is much more so.

I keep thinking about the name Rhett - really like it!
Keep seeing the name Blythe on unusual name posts too
Jasper is also nice if you don’t want to go too unusual

Thedogscollar · 20/04/2021 21:51

Wow you asked for unusual names and received lists of the most hideous names imaginable.

dementedma · 20/04/2021 21:51

We had Ari, Asa, Caleb and Spencer on our list. Friend has an Edison - I’ve never met another one.

It depends what you mean by unusual - unheard of or just not popular right now?

Personally, I'm not a fan of "out there" names so i'd probably go with currently out of fashion names instead.

I love Erasmus

Cotswoldmama · 20/04/2021 22:19

My youngest is called Eben, we've only met one before. The E is pronounced with an 'eh' sound like Emma, that's the only annoying thing he sometimes has people pronouncing it with an 'ee' sound! His middle name is Jago less unusual especially in Cornwall and seems to be gaining more popularity.

toastofthetown · 20/04/2021 22:31

You've not said what type of name you like, so I looked at names that were only registered three times last year and are more than two syllables, so these all should fit your brief:
Aaron-Junior
Goodluck
Howie
Iain
Kaique
Marmaduke
Shabsi
Thorbjorn
Ugochukwu
