What are the new names that you've noticed mentioned on here more than usual or mentioned by friends and on other baby name forums etc.

I have noticed:

Daphne
Sylvie
Nancy
Clara
Lara
Rosalind
Tess
Eleanor
Lucy
Maeve
Louisa
Eloise
Elowen

I also know two young mothers (under 25) who have given birth this year with one choosing the unusual name of a celebrity, the other choosing a very American name (think along the lines of Hunter or Clyde). I have a feeling American names will start to creep into popularity here.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You forgot Bea and Vespa

CirqueDeMorgue · 14/04/2021 11:05

Vida, not sure how to pronounce it.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 14/04/2021 11:19

I've seen Anya popping up on a few threads recently. Although I may be noticing it more as it's the name we've chosen for DC3 if they're a girl. Although it was on our list 2 years ago when we had DS.

I have noticed a lot of American surname style names for boys, at the baby group DS attends there's a Hunter, Archer and Chase.

Violetlavenders · 14/04/2021 12:02

Daphne
Violet
Nancy
Rosemary

Sebastian
Quentin
Arthur
Vincent

So old names seem to be coming back...

SunflowerOwl · 14/04/2021 12:49

Same as @Warrickdaviesasplates but with Thea. Not sure if I'm just noticing it more because it's what we've chosen.

Agree that old man/lady names are coming back eg Dorothy and Wilfred.

Cindie943811A · 14/04/2021 13:32

Algernon
Kaiser
Atlas
Calliope and other assorted Greek names but not Penelope
Minnie
Agnes
Betty
Agatha
Frances/Francis

Violetlavenders · 14/04/2021 14:18

Kaiser? Means emperor in German! I've never seen it as a name Shock

EssentialHummus · 14/04/2021 14:37

Round my way we went from the Ivy/Evie/Ava stage to suddenly every girl born being named Maisie, Marnie or Martha. So that’s my contribution - cutesy girls’ names.

Cindie943811A · 14/04/2021 15:00

@violetlavenders that was my reaction when I was told a relation of my DGD had called her new baby that ( sibling is Aria). I have since read of others called this. I tend to think that the young mums are not aware of the significance of the name.
I have always considered some of the names favoured in Edwardian and Victorian times such as Agatha as very ugly but some mnetters lax lyrical about them.

CaffiSaliMali · 14/04/2021 15:08

Anya, Susanna and Juliet get mentioned on here a lot too.

KirstenBlest · 14/04/2021 15:09

@Warrickdaviesasplates, it could be the same poster.

A while ago, there were a lot of threads about one name, and it was the same poster.

orangegina · 14/04/2021 15:13

I was reading the other day that popular names for 2020 were

Oakley
Grayson
Hudson
Mason

Vile! This is so trendy right now; they will be so naff in 20 years time

And little girls names things like Luna, Aurora. I cringe when I hear these names being called

TheThermalStair · 14/04/2021 15:13

Kaiser Grin - definitely a German Shepherd name. Let's all be on the look out for Max, King and Killer.

Eloises are starting to abound. Alanna (various spelling) was everywhere with people I know a few years ago, not mentioned much on here. Can't bear it as it's just Alan with a girly ending, and noone likes Alan.

TheThermalStair · 14/04/2021 15:14

*And little girls names things like Luna, Aurora. I cringe when I hear these names being called" Presumably part of the Sky(e) name trend. Hmm, Venus, Jupiteria, Comet...

KoalaOok · 14/04/2021 15:16

Mason
Thea

Still a load of Grace/Rose middle names

orangegina · 14/04/2021 15:19

Thea pronounced in a SE/London accent

Feee-arr

orangegina · 14/04/2021 15:20

And her brother. Feee-oh

KirstenBlest · 14/04/2021 15:25

I like the name Alan.

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/04/2021 15:34

I get the impression that we are moving through the Daphne, Nancy, Margot, Clara, Audrey, Sylvia era and into plainer traditional names starting with Susannah , Edith and Rosa and moving on to Sarah, Jane, Mary, Jean, Agnes etc with quite a scattering of welsh and Irish names still popular.

Threelittlebirds1 · 14/04/2021 17:10

Thea

BettyBo33 · 14/04/2021 18:20

Nova
Aria
Wren

Hector
Aspen
Hunter

Edenember · 14/04/2021 19:00

Thea seems to be everywhere.

Cordelia seems to be having a moment on here at least, not sure if that translates into the real world.

Other short names starting with consonants - Vida, Vega, Nola, Nova, Vaila, usually a v in there somewhere. These names feel like a reaction to the short vowel names Eve, Ivy, Ava, Ada etc - maybe the search for something different.

Not sure on boys.
