Dolores was a sort of nn for Maria.

MrsCalypsoGrant · 13/04/2021 19:05

Definitely not Lucy or Lola - both overused & not names for grown women IMHO

Lara is ok, although isn't there a gaming character with that name? (I'm not really of this world Grin)

Lucia is beautiful. I'd go with that.

AnyaMoondial · 13/04/2021 19:15

Lucy and Lara are my joint favourites.

sarah13xx · 13/04/2021 19:16

Was going to say Lara hands down but then I saw Lucia, it’s one of my favourite girl names ever 😭 Still think I’d maybe go Lara though, depends if anyone else is called either name near you

OneofPansPeople · 13/04/2021 19:16

Lara is beautiful
Clara does not sound softer.

ILoveStickers · 13/04/2021 19:28

Lucia or Lucy.

FASDE1517 · 13/04/2021 19:38

Love Lola and Lucy

Erictheavocado · 13/04/2021 19:45

Lara. Beautiful name which we would have use had we had a daughter. Even now, over 30 years later, I still love it.

DotDotDotDotDot · 13/04/2021 19:46

Lola - I like it, seems quite cool to me. The meaning would put me off though personally (lady of sorrows).
Lara - My favourite of your list. Short, cute, sophisticated name. Only concern is that in some accents it sounds a bit like Laura which is awful.
Lucia - various pronunciations, may or may not annoy you. I do like it though.
Lucy - nice enough, quite classic.

MrsNai · 13/04/2021 19:51

Yes, as PP mentioned it is diminutive for Maria-Dolores or Dolores, so you can understand it being then considered short for Maria and shortening the whole name.

MrsNai · 13/04/2021 19:54

Lucy is my favourite as it works for a child and adult.

Not really🙄
DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2021 19:59

Lucy, followed by Lara.

FindingMeno · 13/04/2021 20:01

Lara or Lucia.

MrsNai · 13/04/2021 20:03

Spanish abbreviations of names don't always make sense, like José becoming Pepe, but I think that is a bit true of all languages, no?Smile

MrsNai · 13/04/2021 20:04

Sorry, meant to reply to KitKat and didn't manage to include her post.

Marlena1 · 13/04/2021 20:12

Lara, gorgeous. I wish I'd used it.,

Cressie2 · 13/04/2021 20:36

Lucia by miles, then Lucy xx

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/04/2021 22:01

Lara is stunning, not sure why it's not more popular.
Lucia is pretty and exotic sounding (although could have pronunciation issues).
Lucy is classic but not my taste (sounds too cutesy for me).
Lola is too trendy imo (but a nice nn for Louisa, not keen on Dolores)

VienneseWhirligig · 13/04/2021 22:02

All very pretty. I like Lucia best, then Lara.

Tillygetsit · 13/04/2021 22:47

Lois Blush

sunflowertulip · 13/04/2021 22:51

I like Lucia and Lucy, Lara is fine, I really dislike Lola.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 14/04/2021 01:12

I have a Lucia, we get lots of compliments. You need to be flexible as to how people pronounce it but she doesn't mind.
I like Lara and Lydia too.

Thenanny23 · 14/04/2021 07:04

I dislike Lola- makes me think Lolita

All others lovely

zigaziga · 14/04/2021 07:04

Is Lucia loo-chee-a? I think it’s a pretty name but I don’t think I would use it unless I had Italian links as it sounds so Italian (unlike so many Italian girls names which have been adopted as names here too) and I’d worry I wasn’t pronouncing it exactly right.

I like your list. Lucy is classic and I think works on both girl and woman. Lola maybe a bit less so but it’s not terribly cutesy. Lara is beautiful.
