Wow quite a range!
Noor ok
Thisbe no
Delphi ok
Hebe ok
Elke - el-kah no
Roksana not this spelling
Corisande no
Cordis to me this is a boy's name? Sorry
Aleydis no A/A
Ardith no A/A
Olwen no
Sasha not v different
Saoirse ok
Viviette ok (I like Vivienne much more!)

Are you looking for a name from a particular region?

arethereanyleftatall · 08/04/2021 21:42

My outward reaction to you if you told me any of these names in real life
'Oh, how lovely and unusual'

Whilst internally thinking
'How utterly ridiculous.'

Mine is a harsh response, but I'm fairly sure I wouldn't be the only one; and I'd rather know in advance.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/04/2021 21:47

Noor love this, no idea why
Thisbe ok
Delphi Delphine is a name
Hebe jeebies?
Elke - el-kah nope
Roksana hard no
Corisande meh
Cordis nope
Aleydis ok
Ardith no
Olden autocorrected!
Sasha not unusual also a boys name
Saoirse love it
Viviette no

Aswad · 08/04/2021 21:51

Noor = light, love it
Elke is Kosovan/Albanian? I had a friend years ago with the same name
Only other name I like on the list is Saoirse

Zarinea · 08/04/2021 21:53

I love Noor. It was on our shortlist. It's so cool but so classic.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 08/04/2021 21:57

How do you pronounce Noor? Is it like a northern sounding no?

zigaziga · 08/04/2021 22:01

I’ve known two German Elkes and knew a Noor.

I’m not sure they’re “different” so much as a random mix of names, some of which are just kind of standard names in other cultures. Saoirse is not that an unusual Irish name?

Is it just a name that isn’t Top 100/200 you’re looking for or going for anything specific? I don’t mind quite a few of these.

MimiPigeon · 08/04/2021 22:03

I would find it a bit odd if you used a very obvious Indian or Irish name with no cultural connection to those countries.

EileenGC · 08/04/2021 22:03

I like Delphi and Sasha.

Not Corisande please. It looks like coriander.

SmellsLikeWineIGuess · 08/04/2021 22:05

In the immortal words of Marian Keyes, they all feel a bit ‘cobbled together’.

As a PP says, you will get a polite ‘how lovely / unusual’ response when you introduce your little one, while eyebrows are raised internally.

However, who cares, really? As long as it’s a name you personally would feel proud of for yourself (that’s always my benchmark), then go for it.

vestastilly · 08/04/2021 22:08

I chose names for my children by eliminating anything that the supply teacher at school would pronounce wrong when reading out the register. It helped a lot!

finallychangedmyusername · 08/04/2021 22:08

I really like Corisande and Saoirse.

SnoozyBoozy · 08/04/2021 22:09

I know a Noor (Syrian family), an Olwen and a Hebe. I don't mind quite a few of those names actually.

To be honest, once the baby's born, very few people would be rude enough to comment, so I'd be inclined to go with what you want (unless the child would be ridiculed, eg with a name like Apple or whatever).

SleepingStandingUp · 08/04/2021 22:10

Noor - Nora is cute, Noor not so much
Thisbe - Frisbe with a lisp
Delphi - add an ne at the end and yes
Hebe - as in giving someone the heebie jeebies?
Elke - el-kah - not with that spelling
Roksana - cute
Corisande - pronunciation?
Cordis - yuck
Aleydis - nice
Ardith - nice
Olwen - not quite
Sasha - like and pretty standard
Saoirse - love and common enough now in England if youre here that people can pronounce it
Viviette - bleurgh

SnoozyBoozy · 08/04/2021 22:10

@EileenGC

I like Delphi and Sasha.

Not Corisande please. It looks like coriander.

I also know a Coriander... Goes by Cori though.
bringbackfonzi · 08/04/2021 22:11

Some of these are lovely. Olwen, Delphi, Saoirse I really like. Elke is common in Germany.

user1493494961 · 08/04/2021 22:11

Mostly awful.

Ikeameatballs · 08/04/2021 22:12

I like Noor and Roksana.

AuntieStella · 08/04/2021 22:20

What are your opinions of the following girls names
Noor - OK, do you have Arab heritage?
Thisbe - like, but awkward for people with a lisp
Delphi - oracle? Prefer Delphine
Hebe - like
Elke - el-kah - I would find it difficult to live with a name that you have to explain all the time, but perhaps that's just me
Roksana - prefer Roxana, which is lovely
Corisande - like
Cordis - not keen
Aleydis - don't like
Ardith - don't like
Olwen - OK
Sasha - too masculine
Saoirse - lovely
Viviette - not sure, think it would grow on me

KoalaOok · 08/04/2021 22:21

I love Olwen

IndecentFeminist · 08/04/2021 22:45

Olwen and Corisande are quite nice.

Sasha not unusual but nice.

Delphi ok

Hebe classic

Others are no.

Blyatiful · 08/04/2021 22:50

I love Aleydis. I think it’s an old Dutch/Flemish version of Alice? Roxana is nice, an unremarkable name where I live, and Roxanas are 40something rather than young. Elke is a 1979s German porn star with long hair and a huge bush.

Sall23 · 08/04/2021 22:51

I like Noor and Saoirse, but not the others.

DogsAreShit · 08/04/2021 23:14

They're all very popular round here. Maybe your area hasn't caught up yet op?

What about Roger? Very unusual and easy to spell too.

YoniAndGuy · 08/04/2021 23:19

Mostly just names from a range of cultures rather than different?

I love Hebe
Agree Delphine would be better
Like Saoirse, but not unusual at all
Sasha I love but only for a boy
Noor is lovely but looks wrong on a Western baby

Vauxhall Vivette? Noooo.

The others are all just odd
