I like the idea of Edward but we might not be able to use it because of a family member’s name (husbands cousin) so been thinking of other Ed names.

What do you think of these? What nicknames would you use?

Edward
Edison
Edmund
Edwin
Edgar

Thanks!

I love Edward and Ned is my favourite nickname for Edward. (I think of Ned as Nancy Drew's boyfriend!) Edwin is also nice. Edmund is all Narnia to me.

Edward is definitely my favourite though, a great timeless name with so many nickname options.

Skysblue · 09/04/2021 20:09

Edmund and Edison are best imo.

MrsDoctorDear · 09/04/2021 21:35

Ed, Edd & Eddy.

AutumnColours9 · 09/04/2021 21:58

I like Edison but not any of the others.

EvilOnion · 09/04/2021 22:03

A Ned is the Scottish equivalent of a "Chav" if that's something you need to consider when choosing a nickname.

I like Edward/Eddie not keen on any of the others.

AnnaSW1 · 09/04/2021 22:10

I like Edward and Edison. A couple of friends have called their sons Edison. Great name.

diddlediddle · 09/04/2021 23:31

Husbands cousin is not close enough to worry about! Edward is by far the best of the names. It's a classic, and hardly unusual to have more than one in a family anyway.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 10/04/2021 00:10

Love Edward & Edwin .

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 10/04/2021 09:44

Husband’s adult cousin wouldn’t worry me at all.

Edward - like
Edison - really dislike and not the same feel as the others. Also too associated with lightbulbs.
Edmund - love
Edwin - like
Edgar - love

Great names. Except Edison which is too surname-ish.

VenusClapTrap · 10/04/2021 10:42

I love Edgar! It was on my list but Dh wasn’t on board.

Edison is the only one I dislike. It’s in the surnames for first names camp whereas the others are all classics.

mistypop · 10/04/2021 16:52

I love Edgar it’s my grandads name and I want to call my son it but my boyfriend is not on board.

Lockdownbear · 10/04/2021 17:02

The only one I don't really like is Edmund and I really like Edgar.

But if your favourite is Edward I wouldn't be put off by it being your husbands cousin, how often do you actually see DHs cousin? Is it possibly a family name?

YoniAndGuy · 10/04/2021 17:10

Hmmm we know an Edmund... several years in and it still somehow sounds a bit odd and hard to say. Maybe because he's always Edmund because parents don't like Ed. It just... jars somehow! Definitely not that, not even sure why though.

The others are ok? Really, Edward is the best and the others all are a bit off somehow. Not a fan of Edgar.

Edgar and Edmund are definitely literary baddies somehow Grin

Becles · 10/04/2021 17:19

Edmund or Edgar- nn Ned. Plus literary connections as they appear as brothers in King Lear.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/04/2021 19:04

Edmund is lovely but loathe Edwin - which sounds really wet to me.

Ellmau · 10/04/2021 19:35

Love Edmund, very much like Edgar and like Edwin and Edward.

Edison isn't a name, it's a lightbulb.

Ejm02 · 12/04/2021 23:43

Edward is my favourite- classic and timeless!
Least favourite would be Edgar

PollyThePony · 13/04/2021 09:36

I love Edmund and like Edward. Edward is probably a safer choice, so depends if you like that.
