Thoughts please.

Is it popular? How many do you know?
What ‘vibe’ do you think it has?

Plus other suggestions. Thank you!

I know of one Hudson.

Nice name although wouldn't be on my list as I seem to like more old fashioned names x

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 13:23

I like it, it's like Mason in my mind

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/04/2021 13:24

Truly dreadful.

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2021 13:24

I don't generally like surnames as first names, so it's a no from me.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 05/04/2021 13:26

What ‘vibe’ do you think it has?

I immediately think 'dog'.

But at the same time, I don't hate it for a human either!

SappysCurry · 05/04/2021 13:26

Upstairs, Downstairs (I’m old)

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 13:27

Or Harrison

boomwhacker · 05/04/2021 13:36

Surname or river

DotDotDotDotDot · 05/04/2021 14:11

It’s not bad but seems quite American to me. I haven’t met any Hudsons so wouldn’t say it’s popular.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/04/2021 14:14

Not keen on the "Hud" part personally - sounds doughy. It clearly means "Hugh's son", so would you consider classic Hugh? Or Hugo if you want something more trendy sounding? If it's the cool factor/surname vibe you want then Heath is very nice. Or if you like the "un" sound of Hudson, then Harrison, Jensen, and Sullivan have a nicer sound imo.

bruffin · 05/04/2021 14:16

Its a surname. Vibe is trying too hard to be different

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 05/04/2021 14:27

DS is friends with one (preschool age). He is a sweet boy but I always think ‘river’ when I hear his name.

mamablondie33 · 05/04/2021 14:33

@ZoyaTheDestroyer I think of the river too but in a good way. Are there any dodgy connotations?

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Hugo is too similar to our other child’s name but I do like it

I’m not keen, but then I don’t tend to like surname-type names in general. It has American or servant vibes (Upstairs Downstairs). It’s fine.

SaintReatham · 05/04/2021 14:39

I think Hudson Hawk or the river.

dopenguinsdance · 05/04/2021 14:46

Marmite name IMO. I first came across it a decade ago and didn't like it and would never use it. The parents referred to im as Udson, consciously dropping the H as it was apparently posher Hmm. Another child was Rafe (pronounced Raff-ay-uh). The children's surname was a mash-up of both parents and double-barrelled to boot. Seemed like too much effort to me.

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/04/2021 14:50

Raff-ay-uh? Why would you give your child a name you can't even pronounce?

Rukaya · 05/04/2021 14:51

Aeful

Rukaya · 05/04/2021 14:51

Or even awful!

FawnDrench · 05/04/2021 19:46

River
Rock Hudson
Dog's name

Adventing · 05/04/2021 20:03

I think river or missionary. I like it, its unusual without being 'unique', easy to pronounce and suits different ages imo

mamablondie33 · 05/04/2021 20:08

@Adventing this was my take on it too, I know it’s not for everyone but I’m not a big fan of traditional names. Reassuring to see someone else makes the same kind of associations anyway :)

I know 1
It's fine, not to my taste so when I first heard it I was a bit yikes but now it seems fine

porridgeface · 05/04/2021 20:55

I like it. I had a baby last year and pretty sure there's a couple on my FB baby group

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 05/04/2021 22:02

I don’t think so! It certainly flows through some very beautiful parts of NY state.

I suppose I don’t think of rivers as inspiration for names, in the same way I wouldn’t use Thames / Mississippi / Seine. Shannon would be the exception, perhaps.
