Unsure of baby’s name!

Hi all! My baby is 5 months old and I’m really not sure if I like her name! Long story short, I suffered from PND and PNA and struggled with bonding for the first month and therefore couldn’t find the right name! She’s a beautiful and happy baby so starting to get mum guilt about it! She’s currently 6 months. My friends and family just roll their eyes with it now! Which do you prefer out of the following - ( just your favourites , I don’t need to know which you don’t like)
Emilia (could shorten to Mila or Millie) (birth name)
Lyra
Heidi
Adeline
Iris
Norah
Ava
Thanks in advance - I just want to get it right!Grin

Emilia nn Millie is lovely.

Norah would be my second favourite on your list.

Good luck. xx

Flymetothestars · 27/03/2021 09:17

Emilia is my favourite from your list

I would too worry too much about the spelling. It will become less and less of an issue as people get used to it

partyatthepalace · 27/03/2021 09:26

I like Emilia best - it’s lovely -

Iris is also very nice, but not as classic.

I quite like Lyra but wouldn’t use it as it’s so of the moment it will date, and again not as nice as Emilia. The others I don’t like - Adeline and Norah I think are quite ugly, Ava also just merges with the endless Eve/Eva/Evelyns, and Heidi just makes me think of 70s porn stars or the weird old kids TV series.

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/03/2021 09:29

I like Emilia, Heidi and Nora (not keen on the h) .

MinnieJackson · 27/03/2021 09:30

Emilia is lovely and I love Mila and Emmy aswell.
Lyra is lovely aswell but I think it will become more popular as I think ed sheeran called his baby that.

EssentialHummus · 27/03/2021 09:32

Emilia is beautiful OP. I think, gently, that this might be a PND symptom coming through rather than being about the name itself x

Threelittlebirds1 · 27/03/2021 09:32

Emilia is a lovely name, it's by far my favourite- I think you've made a great choice! It's actually on the list of names I regret not calling my daughter.
I love nn Mila (and also Emmy)

bdd2017 · 27/03/2021 09:36

Emilia and iris are my faves

Itsjustaride8w737 · 27/03/2021 09:41

Emilia is gorgeous op. Lyra sounds awful I'm surprised it's a name.

daisypond · 27/03/2021 09:53

Emilia is fine. Iris is my favourite, though.

CordeliaCurtains · 27/03/2021 10:24

Emilia of gorgeous. It could shorten well to Emmie

Mrsmoxatron · 27/03/2021 10:31

Thank you all!! That was all helpful ! 😍

I gave my little girl a name that was too big for her when she was a baby. By the time she was walking and talking she had definitely grown into it, and now she’s 10 I can’t imagine any other name that would have been as good. Emilia is a beautiful name (and the others on the list are also lovely choices!)

mangodreams · 27/03/2021 10:42

Emilia def favourite from that list, with nn Mia.

sal1223 · 27/03/2021 10:59

I like Emilia best too - I like the shortened versions also and would consider Emmie and love Mila x

KirstenBlest · 27/03/2021 12:21

Congratulations on your baby and well done for coping with the PND and PNA.

Emilia (could shorten to Mila or Millie) (birth name) - not keen on Mila but Millie is nice
Lyra - don't like it
Heidi - like it
Adeline - don't like it at all
Iris - ok
Norah - not keen
Ava - don't like it

Of your list Emilia is by far the nicest. Good choice.

Crosstrainer · 27/03/2021 12:27

Emilia is lovely. My DD has a friend with that name, who is often known as Millie.

There’s a lot of angst about names. Ultimately (as long as you haven’t picked something that will dreadfully embarrass a child - which you clearly haven’t), it doesn’t really matter all that much - the name becomes “their” name and signifies them. I wanted to name my DD after a family member and my DH really didn’t. I’d always imagined having a DD with that name and I was initially sad about it. But now she’s older, I can’t imagine her being called anything other than the name we chose.....and neither can she. There’s no such thing as the “right” name, so certainly no need to feel any guilt. You’ve chosen a lovely, classic name for her. I’d stick with it and just concentrate on enjoying your little girl. (That said, it’s also by far my favourite from your list!)

HoppyHop · 27/03/2021 12:31

With regards to spelling, lots of people have to spell out their names. It's really not a problem. Lots of more common names have multiple possible spelling variations. I love her birth name.

Ijustlikedthename · 27/03/2021 17:17

Emilia is beautiful

Chilldonaldchill · 27/03/2021 18:29

Emilia is my favourite. I like Emmy as a nickname.
Next would be Iris and Ava but they are relatively popular and Lyra.
Not so keen on the others although your whole list is nice really.

Mrsmoxatron · 27/03/2021 18:37

Thank you for all your feedback!!! I wish I had done it sooner! Going to stick with Emilia - I think I just needed some reassurance- thank you all again x

I adore the name Emilia and I think it has great nickname options. Stick with it!

MadeOfStarStuff · 27/03/2021 19:07

My personal favourite is Norah but Emilia is lovely too

BrutusMcDogface · 28/03/2021 07:23

Wonderful news, op! Enjoy your sweet little Emilia! Flowers

Re reading this thread has made me remember a time I doubted the name we chose for our first born. It seems like a huge responsibility, naming a person! She’s 11 now and her name is part of her, and I love it. Flowers

Woulditbeworth · 28/03/2021 22:56

Yeay, I hope the reassurance has helped you move forward. Enjoy your beautiful DD.
