Carys or Cerys or Kirsten or Kirstin ????

And also how would they all be pronounced??
I'd say:
Carys - Ca-riss
Cerys - Ke-riss
Kirsten - Ker-stun
Kirstin - Ker-stin

And could /would they get shortened? Carrie / Kerry / Kirstie / Kirsty / Kirst / Caz... ??

We're in England if that makes a difference.

Sophie is a lovely name too but yes I certainly know more Sophies than the other names you mention. It depends how important it is to you to have a more or less frequently used name.

I have one child with a more popular name and the other is one of the names on your list. I have no regrets over either name choice. The one with the more popular name is known at school as name and initial because there are a few of them. The one on your list is the only one in school.

Not keen on any but Cerys is the nicest, I like a lot of Welsh names (not Blodwin). Caris should be Charis I think, it comes from 'charisma' or 'charismatic'. Both mean 'loved' or 'loved one'.

Out of your list I love Cerys. Carys is OK. I think Kirsten (and variants thereof) have had their day for now.

Sophie is a beautiful name. But then I honestly wouldn't care less if a name is popular and I wanted to use it.

It did when she was smaller. I remember being disappointed when she started school and realising there was another girl with the same name and spelling. She’s 12 now so we’re used to it. It bothered me more than it bothered her I think.

Carys is a Welsh name, Charis is an unrelated name (Greek, I believe) with the same pronunciation.

Carys is my favourite. Cerys nice too but I think Carys pronunciation is more obvious to anyone unfamiliar with the name - my cousin Ceri gets 'Serry' a lot and I think Cerys would get 'serise'.

I prefer Kirsten to Kirstin, I knew a lovely Kirsten who pronounced it Kirstin rather than Kirstun.

I really like Cerys, I know a lovely little one, Carys is OK. Dislike Kirsten/Kirstin, I find the sound a bit harsh.

But I love Carrie as a stand-alone name.

Love Kirsten (prefer this spelling) - very Scandi cool imo. Carys, Cerys and Sophie are fine too - my 2nd fave is Sophie, although the popularity with all the Sophia/Sofia's too puts me off slightly (but if it's your favourite I would go for it, as it's a very classic name).

Sophie is very overused now, Carys is more unusual in England.
