Friya?

Love the Persian name Friya, will it get mixed up with Freya and Priya?
Friya is the Persian version, Freya / Priya are lovely but not from our culture. Do you think the confusion with the other names should rule Friya out?

It sounds like a cooking oil to me but then I’ve never heard it before!

Dottybirds · 15/03/2021 13:57

Is it pronounced Free-uh or Fry-uh?

Afewofmyfavouritenames · 15/03/2021 14:01

It’s pronounced Free-ya, very similar to Priya

Or more like Free-Uh actually

I think it’s quite nice! If you like it I’d go for it. Makes a change from Olivia, Ava, Evie etc Smile

CurlyMair · 15/03/2021 14:06

Nope nope and nope

Makes me think of a Fritter as in Pineapple Fritter

I also think of the Ultra Nate song " cos you're free...."

Don't do it. There are better names out there.

partyatthepalace · 15/03/2021 14:45

It will be endless confusion with Freya and Priya both of which are v popular, so I would find something else -

People are being pretty rude on here.

Perfectly nice name. I wouldn't rule out a name on the basis that it might be misspelled/mispronounced - even 'safe' names like Claire can be.

Go for it.

Soubriquet · 15/03/2021 14:54

I did initially thought you had misspelt Freya but no it’s nice

I like it

PetraRabbit · 15/03/2021 15:08

I think you will experience Freya being used by mistake quite often, but if that doesn't bother you, it's a good name. It has genuine links to your culture.

JosephineBaker · 15/03/2021 15:17

I would suspect a lifetime of correcting people from Freya, tbh.

BackforGood · 15/03/2021 15:27

I did say it as "Fry-uh" when I saw it, so suspect I won't be alone.
I agree with most that many will confuse it with Freya.
However, in our multi-cultural society people soon get used to names from cultures other than their own.
Depends on how many options you have and depends on how much you think you'd be bothered by people spelling your name wrong a lot.
If I were going to live elsewhere, I'd still give my children English names as that is my culture.

MuddleMoo · 15/03/2021 16:46

I thought Fry-uh too, but it's a lovely name and it depends where you live and if it bothers you at all that it might get mispronounced. There are so many names out there that can be spelt differently/will get muddled and I don't think it's that much of an issue.

Nell96 · 15/03/2021 18:50

I think it's ok. I do think it'll get mixed up with Freya, and both Freya and Priya are much nicer names, in my opinion.

DramaAlpaca · 16/03/2021 01:52

I really like it. It sounds nicer than Freya and it's softer than Priya. Very pretty name, I think.

stormelf · 16/03/2021 10:34

I read it as free uh and think it is a really lovely name. Yes it will probably get confused with Freya but people will quickly learn the pronunciation. It's such a beautiful sounding name

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 16/03/2021 10:39

It's a nice name, but you'll be forever correcting people who think you mean Freya

Viviennemary · 16/03/2021 10:43

People will just think it's been misspent. So I wouldn't.
