I’d like opinions on my boys name...

Hi all,

So I’m 34 weeks with a little boy (3rd child) currently have a DD Katie Louise and a DS Ryan George. The little one one pregnant with now is donor conceived so I have no one to discuss names with (it’s to hard to discuss with family - it ends it fights 😂)

So I love the Japanese word Kaizen which means “change for the better” or “good change” which just suits the situation perfectly I think. But it’s never seen on any names lists. So can it pass as a name? Middle names would be Stanley Mykel Thomas.

Thanks all 🥰

Oooh no it's awful in English sorry

AndThenTheDayBecomesTheNight · 11/03/2021 17:47

No.
It's a concept (and a business process, I believe), not a name.
And is that your individual spelling of Michael?

partyatthepalace · 11/03/2021 17:57

I get that you like it, but I don’t think it will help him in his life. Stanley and Thomas are nice, and Michael is too if spelt normally.

imalmostthere · 11/03/2021 17:58

Goodness no. It doesn't go with your other names at all, and it sounds horrid. Sorry op

ChameleonClara · 11/03/2021 17:59

I don't really like it and snobs will judge but it doesn't make me think of anything terrible.

My main thought is that is a LOT of names for one kid!

Congrats on your pregancy Flowers

VettiyaIruken · 11/03/2021 18:04

I don't think it really works tbh.

I'd also think again about Mykel. People are likely to assume it's just that you can't spell Michael.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/03/2021 18:05

I'd think it would likely get confused with similar Kaiden , which has a bit of a trendy/downmarket feel. So Kaizen would be middle name only for me. Stanley is okay, perhaps a bit a fashioned sounding imo but I like popular classic Thomas, and really love underused now Michael (spelt this traditional way).

Is it the Z sound you like in Kaizen? Maybe (Ale)Xander, Zachary, Isaac, Xavier or even Zev? Or Welsh Cai or Roman Caius instead?(although this occasionally gets pronounced as Keys).

WithASpider · 11/03/2021 18:18

My friend has a 10yo Kaizen, he's generally know as Kai. It's a nice enough name and I like Kaizen Stanley. Not too sure about Mykel.

Ginevere · 11/03/2021 18:26

I think one day little Kaizen is going to ask whytf he has such an awful name when his siblings are Katie and Ryan tbh!

elliemara · 11/03/2021 18:29

I think Kai would be really nice? You'd still have the nod to the meaning but would avoid mispronunciations etc.

Also, why Mykel??! Why not Michael?

Positivemind · 11/03/2021 18:29

Stanley Mykel Thomas are family names, so wanted to stick with them as middle names. Thanks for everyone’s opinion.

Kaizen to me is multiple workshops involving brown paper rolls, flip charts and post-it notes to map out business processes and identify waste/areas for improvement. Often involving lots of eye-rolling from the participants. So while I love the sentiment, it's not a name I would choose.

MadamMiddle · 11/03/2021 18:39

I like Kaizen, it's different. However, it does seem very odd with siblings Katie and Ryan

Bimblybomeyelash · 11/03/2021 18:42

Kaizen yay sounds like a younique version of Kai.

Why so many family middle names when your first son only has George?

toastofthetown · 11/03/2021 18:46

You haven't said if you have any like to Japan but I'd be very hesitant to use a Japanese name with no Japanese heritage, especially as the name Kaizen seems (from a brief google so happy to be corrected) not to be a commonly used Japanese name. I feel you shouldn't choose a name that will make your child's life unnecessarily difficult and constantly having to explain 'no not Japanese, my mum just liked the name' might be a pain for your child (leaving out the potential cultural appropriation issue - which may or may not be a problem in your son's life).

Personally the name Kaizen makes me think about continuous improvement in the workplace, which doesn't make a great name to me. Plan Do Check Act aren't bad workplace philosophy but I wouldn't name my child that.

miltonj · 11/03/2021 18:51

Kai is lovely. No need to add the zen in my opinion.

BingBongToTheMoon · 11/03/2021 18:53

No.
Trying too hard to be “edgy”, especially when compared to their half sibling’s names.
Also...I think it’s too much like Kaiser to be “nice”.

WombatWomb · 11/03/2021 18:53

Unless one of you is Japanese definitely not.

Thomas is nice.

LizzieMacQueen · 11/03/2021 18:59

So the child will have four forenames plus surname. I really hope that's not double barrelled!

If your question is, does it go with your other DC names then, no.

How about Caleb?

May2021Mummy · 11/03/2021 19:07

I'm not a fan I'm afraid could you not use this as his whole name

Stanley Mykel Thomas.

Stanley is a nice name

miltonj · 11/03/2021 19:13

Also Kai and Ryan are very similar, especially if you often call your son Ry. Agree that Stanley it Caleb would work well.

AgeLikeWine · 11/03/2021 19:13

It’s a no from me.

Kaizen is not a name.

It’s a Japanese word which has a specific meaning relating to production systems & processes. Middle-managers use it in tedious PowerPoint presentations because they think it makes them sound clever.

sarah13xx · 11/03/2021 19:17

I suggested an unusual name last night on here and it was ripped to shreds 😳😂 I think a lot of people just seem to prefer very traditional names which are nice but if you want something different that another 2 kids in the class aren’t called I think go for it. If everyone picked a name out the top 20 life would be very boring 🤷🏼‍♀️x

AdelaideK · 11/03/2021 19:20

No we use it in work so it seems strange as a name. I think you have too many names for this child seeing as your others only have one middle name.

kobo · 11/03/2021 19:56

Ordell means beginning, Xavier means second home/ bright which could be seen as a new start.
