Allegra

Really loved the name Allegra for a middle name but just found out it's the name of an antihistamine (think it's more common in US as I've never come across it in UK myself)

Would this put people off using it

It will be a middle name so not used everyday and I do love it and the Italian meaning behind it but now I'm worried people will think I'm an idiot

My mum had a Vauxhall Allegra when I was little

Hope that helps

Love it 😍

Candyapple49 · 11/03/2021 11:24

Lovely name . There is a female tv chef called Allegra and I have always thought it was nice .

IggyAce · 11/03/2021 11:25

I love it, I did suggest it for dc1 but dh vetoed it.
No one really uses middle names everyday, go for it. As a middle name it’s a breath of fresh air compared to the usual Rose, May or Grace that are currently popular.

stormelf · 11/03/2021 12:37

It's really nice. Definitely a more interesting middle name than a lot of usual filler names (I say this with a dd with a typical filler middle name although now it's more of a 80s filler middle name)

MotherOfCrocodiles · 11/03/2021 13:30

Love it, it was on my list until Allegra Statton became the mouthpiece of Boris which makes it a bit of a no go in this house :-( but probably not a big deal to others

Enko · 11/03/2021 13:35

Love it

I associate it with posh people, kind of Saskia sort of name. It's nice in itself but not the connotations.

charlottemont · 11/03/2021 19:46

I really like it. And if it makes you feel better about the allergy medication link, I'm from the US and have had two close friends named Allegra. While it is a very common medication over there, once you meet a person with the name you never associate the two. I feel like it's a very "city" name - everyone I know from the US named Allegra is from New York, and everyone I know from the UK named Allegra is from London (although that's just where I live so I haven't had many opportunities to meet others). It is a beautiful name!! Very elegant and pretty.

partyatthepalace · 11/03/2021 19:52

I like it and I wouldn’t associate it with medicine, I know an American Allegra - she has told me it’s a popular name in the Jewish community (she is Jewish) no idea why.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/03/2021 20:20

Allegra is gorgeous, very poetic sounding - I think it's perfectly useable as a first name, let alone a middle one! The American medication would only matter to me if you planned to spend a lot of time in the States (and even then, only for a first name).

Bruce2 · 11/03/2021 21:41

Ah that's nice to know that people think it's nice. I do quite love it
Ok I'll keep it on the list....may have a boy and it will never be used!

It was my choice for DS2 who, obviously, didn’t get it. I love it. DS1 was going to be Constance.

Peachbubble · 12/03/2021 10:35

I like it
