What do you think and is it still quite uncommon?

Awful and I hope so .

partyatthepalace · 07/03/2021 10:30

It’s quite fashionable now, I know two little Veras, is part of the early 20th century revival (like Margot and Lena). I don’t like it but many do!

Hilochickalo · 07/03/2021 10:33

Hmm don't feel it has come back around yet really!

chickensoup23 · 07/03/2021 10:35

Awful

YouDoNotHaveTheAuthority · 07/03/2021 10:35

I love it, mostly I think because the personal connections I have of people I know with the name have genuinely been the nicest possible type of person.

Sort of the opposite way to when you can't name your child after a bitter ex or your school bully.

goldielockdown2 · 07/03/2021 10:36

It's a gorgeous name.

user1493494961 · 07/03/2021 11:41

It's uncommon for a reason, it's bloody awful.

daisypond · 07/03/2021 11:44

I like it. It’s a style of name that is coming round again - Margot, Alma, Daphne, Pearl, etc.

Elouera · 07/03/2021 11:46

Sorry, its dreadful and my 1st thought was the film Vera Drake about a backyard abortionist!!!

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/03/2021 12:04

To a certain age of the British population, this is Vera.

KirstenBlest · 07/03/2021 13:44

Dislike it. Use it for your houseplant.

MyCalatheaHatesMe · 07/03/2021 14:27

It's the name of my best friend and I love it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/03/2021 14:38

Very dated currently in the UK, but I can easily see Vera becoming more popular in 10/20 years due to a combination of factors - it's popularity in other parts of Europe, the fact that it has a fairly nice sound and meaning and that names often go in approx 100 year cycles here (so if you used it, you could be ahead of the pack!).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/03/2021 14:42

Similar Verity feels more useable/less brave to me at the moment though.

Maireas · 07/03/2021 14:47

Vera is nice. I thought I'd never teach a Mabel, Stanley or Elsie, but here we are! It's pretty and still unusual.

BackforGood · 07/03/2021 15:06

To me, it's not good, BUT, I totally agree with IamnotwhouthinkIam.

A lot of how names sound is to do with your own age. New Mums at the moment are going to be 30 at least 20 years young than me, so won't have memories of the old ladies with these names, that I do.

Whereas new Mums at the moment, won't call their new babies Debbie, Karen, Susan, Stephen, Keith, Gary - give it 40 years and they will all be very chic again. Life is one big circle it seems when it comes to names.

Flatoutonsofa · 07/03/2021 15:15

Vera Duckworth. Not my cup of tea, sorry!

CoffeeRunner · 07/03/2021 15:17

Heavens no, not Vera.

It’s still very much Vera Duckworth to me.

Nell96 · 07/03/2021 18:31

I actually really like it. Possibly because I knew one - Spanish, lovely, bubbly person.

Schumann · 07/03/2021 18:35

Love it, gorgeous name. I also love it when it's pronounced with an air sound for the e.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 07/03/2021 18:43

Love this name

WildBluebell · 07/03/2021 19:47

I like it. Don't know why people are saying it's awful. What's so awful about it?

musicinspring1 · 07/03/2021 19:48

Instantly reminds me of the tv detective !!

PurBal · 07/03/2021 19:54

Love it

MuddleMoo · 07/03/2021 20:35

It's nice but I think of Aloe Vera
