Is this name to close to mine?

DH is Argentinian and suggested the name Carlota which I absolutely adore yet it did not click until now that my name is Caroline. It doesn't seem too similar written down but the Car-o part feels too matchy to me. Is it or am I just overthinking it?

It is not set in stone so we are also considering other options.

You’re overthinking. The names are much more different than they are similar.

LongTimeMammaBear · 06/03/2021 20:42

They’re different. N issue there

However even if the names were, why would that be a problem? Your child isn’t going to use your name. What’s more, many people have family names which multiple generations having the name, both make and female.

RuthW · 06/03/2021 20:48

They are totally different.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/03/2021 20:49

Some people would be aware that they come from the same base/root (masculine Charles/Carl to feminine Caroline/Charlotte/Carlotta) but since the end sounds are fairly different I think you can probably get away with it, and it might be a nice link between mother and daughter (but yes I would discourage the Caro nickname and go for Lottie/Lotta instead!)

ILoveStickers · 06/03/2021 20:49

As long as you are ok with having the same initial - no issue. The emphasis is on a different vowel, so the sound different.

I actually know a mum called Carlotta with a baby Carolina!

NellietheNumpty · 06/03/2021 20:56

What about Karlota?
That avoids the same initial and confusing post issue.

partyatthepalace · 06/03/2021 21:01

No it’s fine, they are both feminine derivatives of Charles but distinctly different.

Maybe try and base your DD’s nns on the end of her name - lota lottie - rather than the start.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 06/03/2021 21:05

It's the Spanish equivalent of Charlotte so similar, but not too much so. Carolina would be the same name.

Bimblybomeyelash · 06/03/2021 21:21

I don’t think the names are too similar, but I don’t think that Carlotta is a very nice name in many English accents.

Marcipex · 06/03/2021 21:28

It’s lovely and not too similar at all.

Standrewsschool · 06/03/2021 21:30

The two names are fine. Yes, a little similar, but still different.

daisypond · 06/03/2021 21:34

Technically they are the same name but in different languages. If it was for a sibling, it’d be no, but for mother and daughter it’s completely fine.

Longdistance · 06/03/2021 21:39

I'll just warn you about having the same initials. My db had the same initial as df and the post was a nightmare to sort. Opening each others post. Db's name was the English version of df's.

LittleTiger007 · 07/03/2021 15:39

If your name was Charlotte then yes. Carlota is the Spanish version.
As it is your name is completely different.

custardbear · 07/03/2021 15:40

My daughters name is a bit similar to
Mine, same initial, same number of letters and syllables - sometimes people mix us up but it's rare -
She's 12
Go for It,
Lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2021 15:59

It's fine, they are very different.

Synchrony · 07/03/2021 16:07

Overthinking.
I love the name!
