Rebecca?

Dated or classic? I already have a Francesca, and Evelyn and a Theodore. Want something 3 syllable and easily shortened. I love the book. Not bothered by biblical reference. Does it go with the other names? Evelyn and Theodore both still go with their full names- so I don’t think she’s automatically be a Becky...which I don’t love, but could live with. Becca’s a bit better. If not Rebecca then what?

I really like it. Classic name.

And she’ll be the only one in her class.

midsomermurderess · 06/03/2021 23:27

It's a lovely name. Becks, Becky etc not so much.

Paperyfish · 07/03/2021 08:38

@Whatsyourflava that’s so true about Meredith. I think because I lived so close to where the Holly Jessica murders happened it just resonated more with me as I remember it all so clearly. Maybe for others Meredith is very associated with that poor girl.

I like Rebecca

First name to come to mind with your other children though was Helena

I also love the pp suggestion of Meredith

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2021 08:43

Bit dated

Harriet
Juliet
Natasha
Meredith

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2021 08:45

When I think of Meredith I think of Meredith Grey rather than Kercher.

Sophia another nice 3 syllable name.

Macblondie · 07/03/2021 08:54

I think Rebecca is such a beautiful name! It was our 2nd choice name for our daughter. I’m not keen on the nickname Becky though, but like Becca.

MumofSpud · 07/03/2021 09:15

Rebecca doesn't go' with your other DC's names, IMO.
Evelyn
Francesca
Theodore
&
Amelia
Elizabeth
Violet

user2021 · 07/03/2021 09:15

Too 90s for my liking.

HummusAndCarrotSticks · 07/03/2021 09:18

I love it!

I also love Catherine, suggested above and your dd's name, Francesca.

How about Louisa?

RazzleDazz1e · 07/03/2021 09:20

NO

RazzleDazz1e · 07/03/2021 09:20

Although caveat that I have my own very specific reasons haha!

MyCatHatesOtherCats · 07/03/2021 09:41

I think Rebecca is a beautiful name. I know ones who go by Becky, Becca, Bex, Reb - so I think you have to accept that while she may only be Rebecca at home, she may choose a shortening as she gets older.

I also like the suggestion of Meredith and Charlotte. How about:

Annabelle
Anastasia
Lucinda
Sophia
Gabriella

@Paperyfish

I grew near soham so jessica still has strong associations for me I’m afraid.

My sister is a Jessica and had to nurse the Soham killer when he was beaten up in prison. She had to cover her name badge.

I love Jessica and Rebecca.

Aozora13 · 07/03/2021 09:49

I think it’s timeless rather than dated. But as an 80s baby I’d put it in the same category as Sarah/Catherine/Victoria/Elizabeth/Louise/Rachel as in there were loads of people with the same name and I know multiple Beckys and Beccas all in their mid-late 30s and early 40s.

Oh and btw I love your other kids names!

Notgotanyidea · 07/03/2021 10:29

Josephine sprang to mind when I saw your other children’s names

Lillylola · 07/03/2021 12:02

Alexandra fits well ..

TreesoftheField · 07/03/2021 12:30

Valerie?
Verity?
I think Rebecca is timeless. There is one in my son's class and doesn't seem dated at all.

elfycat · 07/03/2021 12:41

I have a 10yo Rebecca (known as Becky) so obviously I'm a bit biased.

I agree it's timeless and it's got that not-many-around thing while not being so unusual that it stands out. I've only ever had 'oh that's a nice name' comments.

I have an old Biblical name, as does my husband. All the Peter, Luke, Adam, David, Joseph, Sarah, Rebecca, Mary, Hannah, Eve names will loop in endless cycles of popularity.

The diminutives are nice enough too, I like both Becky and Becca.

I say jump on the Rebecca bandwagon ahead of the next popularity upswing.

ExpertlyProcrastinating · 07/03/2021 13:10

Two of my oldest friends are Rebecca and Rebekah.

Rebecca gets called different nns depending on who she's with- Becca, Becky, Becs, Reb.

Rebekah goes by Bek.

It's a nice name, but so rarely used in its full form.

MagicSummer · 07/03/2021 13:20

I like it a lot. Other ideas:-

Georgina
Hepzibah
Tatiana
Perdita
Louisa
Cassandra
Lavinia
Arabella

Paperyfish · 07/03/2021 17:14

Thanks everyone. Being induced tomorrow so hopefully when she comes out I’ll know what she should be called. At the moment I’m just so nervous!
