Dexter??

I think it's a bit of a marmite name but it's really growing on me.

I know there's a tv series but I've never seen it and I'm not that worried about the connection.

Any thoughts? Or other suggestions?

Thank you

I love the shortened version of Dex as well.

Ellieboolou33 · 03/03/2021 21:48

I like it, it's cool or hour being too try hard or wacky.

I considered it when I was pregnant twice, but had 2 girls

BumpLoading · 03/03/2021 21:49

I love the name Dexter!
When you said you know its a TV series my first thought was Dexters Laboratory, a cartoon from when I was a kid, I havnt seen the serial killer one so wouldn't make that connection Grin

DramaAlpaca · 03/03/2021 21:49

It's not my style at all.

May2021Mummy · 03/03/2021 21:58

Thanks everyone

I like the shortening Dex and it just seems to fit.

Middle name will be Alan after my grandad but I think it flows quite well with our surname

I guess once baby arrives it will just be his name and any other references will be forgotten

Sounds like a dog's name to me.

Coronateachingagain · 03/03/2021 23:25

Sorry sounds like a dog's name to me too

Serin · 03/03/2021 23:48

Always associated with cattle for me.

percheron67 · 04/03/2021 00:06

Serial killer. Also, next door's dog is called Dexter and he is one of the nastiest, aggressive dogs I have ever met.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/03/2021 02:30

I don't think the TV series matters, but I do find Dex/Dexter a bit hipster/trendy (similar to Spencer or Chester). Though weirdly I quite like Lex (Alexander) and even Rex, so maybe Dexter's a grower. Lovely to give a middle name after your Grandad too.

TaraR2020 · 04/03/2021 02:35

I like shortening it to 'Dex' but, I'm sorry, Dexter will always be a weird little cartoon boy with a freaky sister in Dexter's Lab to me.

CuddlyDudley71 · 04/03/2021 08:47

I have a Dexter Miles-aged 15. He was born before the TV series and there has never been another one in any of his schools! As he has got older he uses Dex.

Topseyt · 04/03/2021 08:51

I like it. Go for it.

May2021Mummy · 04/03/2021 09:20

I do know someone with a dog called Dexter but I also know dogs called Dave Bella Bruce and Jessie I just think dogs get people names now 😂😂😂

My only concern would be I read somewhere they are going to do another series of Dexter

May2021Mummy · 10/03/2021 12:39

We've decided to stick with Dexter thanks for all the comments much appreciated 💙

I think it’s great. I haven’t watched the tv series but I loved Dexter's Laboratory.

alexdgr8 · 10/03/2021 18:01

i associate it with cattle.
not a given name for a person.
i vote against.

KateKeeper · 10/03/2021 18:02

I think it's great!

May2021Mummy · 10/03/2021 19:51

@alexdgr8 I've never heard of it being associated with cattle by I know nothing about cows 😂 so it doesn't bother me

My little guy is called Dexter, we also call him Dex Dext and Dexty. It was our first name choice, and really suits him Smile

Burtrix7 · 10/03/2021 22:06

We also have a Dexter. He's 5 and we still love the name. Oddly, he was kinda named after the TV series as my husband and I watched it a lot together when we were dating.
He gets called Dexy a lot and Dex occasionally. It really suits him.

PatNextDoor · 10/03/2021 22:13

Dexter always makes me think of Frontier Psychiatrist by the Avalanches.

deste · 10/03/2021 22:29

I know a Dexter in his 30’s and three dogs named Dexter but I do like it.
