Which spelling should we go for? It's to go with the middle name Bridge.

Jenson as that's the more commonly used spelling (looking at ONS official numbers) so it's what people are more likely to assume the spelling is

Lovely name

stripesepirts · 03/03/2021 09:49

Thank you! That's a good point.

I think Jensen Bridge. It's a lovely name. I know two little boys with the name, think they both spell it Jenson though.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/03/2021 13:21

Jenson more obviously means "John's son" to me, so unless his dad is called John/Jack/Jonathan I personally prefer the look of Jensen (I also think it has a slightly softer, more pleasant sound too). But yes, thanks to the popularity of Jenson Button, you might risk it being misspelt.

CatCup · 03/03/2021 13:22

I teach a Jensen.

ramidad123 · 03/03/2021 13:25

I'd vote for Jensen because of the two e's I think it looks better. I don't personally know any Jensen's of any spelling but I would assume it was spelt with an E.

MillyMinamino · 03/03/2021 13:28

I always think of Jensen as a Scandinavian name and want to pronounce it yensen. So if you're English I'd go with Jenson.

Tatum1234 · 03/03/2021 13:29

I prefer Jensen. I know one of each spelling, lovely name.

stellarfox · 03/03/2021 19:42

Jenson as that’s the only one I’ve heard of but I would go for the most popular of the two!

scrivette · 03/03/2021 19:44

Jenson seems to be more popular with the few Jenson's I know. It's one of my favourite names.

KirstenBlest · 03/03/2021 20:38

It's not great @stripesepirts, & will be shortened to Jens.
I would go with the Jensen spelling and middle name Interceptor.

Susie477 · 03/03/2021 20:42

It’s a Scandinavian name, originally spelled Jensen.

It was John Button, Jenson’s dad, who originated the spelling Jenson when he named his son, who then popularised the name. The ‘Jenson’ spelling was almost unknown before 2000.

strudsespark · 03/03/2021 20:50

Yes it's a Danish surname. Used to be the most common one, until people thought it was too 'common' and bought something else, I don't know about its popularity now Grin.

But never mind op, even if you call you dc Jensen I'm sure few would think of it as a surname where you are Smile.

Onlinedilema · 03/03/2021 22:28

Id go Jensen.

spaceghetto · 03/03/2021 22:42

We have a Jenson but it took us a while to decide the spelling. I find people spell the name with an 'o' but the older generation often call him "Jason".

sarah13xx · 05/03/2021 19:57

I’m 17 weeks, having a boy and we have 99% decided on the name Jenson 😊 we live in Scotland so it’s really unusual here (only about 25 born per year). Hopefully that doesn’t change any time soon! Jenson Button is the only one I’d ever heard of and didn’t realise it was more popular in England. Heard of it again as a Youtuber I follow has a son named Jenson (Lucy Carter). I will be spelling it with the ‘on’ ending! X

MsTSwift · 05/03/2021 20:00

Is it after the racing driver? It’s a slightly cringey name IMO sorry

krj2688 · 07/03/2021 10:50

@Whatsyourflava my son is Jenson. So many people spell it with an 'e'.
