Sebastien or Louis

Our baby boy will be half french and we are really torn between Sebastien or Louis.

We already have a little girl called Amelie but we just can’t decide on her brothers name. Which do you prefer?

Sebastian is my favourite. Classic and suits all ages. Love sebby for a toddler and Seb for a teenager!

Jupitersmoon842 · 27/02/2021 09:14

Louis! I love the sound of it, cute on a toddler, cool for a teen and it’s a proper name for an adult. I love how it looks written down too.
Sebastien is nice too but I really can’t stand ‘Seb’ as a nickname

Ellmau · 27/02/2021 11:19

Sebastien is lovely, but will he have problems with people spelling it Sebastian here?

Louis is nice, but Amelie and Louis together is a lot of ls.

partyatthepalace · 27/02/2021 11:22

I’d go for Louis.

I prefer Sebastian but the change in spelling will be a pain for him. Louis is nice.

ShaunaTheSheep · 27/02/2021 11:26

Love them both.
You will get Sebastian constantly misspelt with an a though.
And either Loo-eee or Loo-iss.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 27/02/2021 12:47

Both lovely.

Sébastien will get the anglicised spelling Sebastian constantly. People won’t even notice that they’ve done it. Louis at least has consistent spelling. Thankfully the loo-is pronunciation is dying a death post Prince Louis.

Dotinthecity · 27/02/2021 12:59

Louis sounds better I think.

Claire2308 · 27/02/2021 13:12

@ShaunaTheSheep

Yes thinking about it, if we were to go to with Sebastien we probably would spell Sebastian so he wouldn’t hate us growing up 🙈

Two of my favourite names so I'm not very helpful I'm sorry Smile

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/02/2021 14:02

Prefer Sebastian, it's a lovely name (but spelt this way if he's going to be living in the UK, because it would be a pain otherwise). Having said that, there's nothing wrong with Louis and I think most people will pronounce it the French way.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/02/2021 14:07

Funnily enough though I just met a young sibset of toddler Louis and year 1/2 Amelie the other day - so it must be a popular/instinctual combo!

Lemonsyellow · 27/02/2021 14:19

Louis. I’m not keen on Sebastian, but the French spelling and pronunciation is nice. Seb is horrible, enough to put me off the name.

Flymetothestars · 27/02/2021 14:50

Love both
Sorry I'm no help at all

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 27/02/2021 14:53

Bastien? Gorgeous name and good odds of people spelling it correctly.

tiredmum2468 · 27/02/2021 14:56

Both are lovely but there's 3 Sebastian's in dd5's reception so it's quite popular but love both choices
Save one for the next baby 👶🏻

ParisJeTAime · 27/02/2021 15:52

Louis!

I do like Sebastien, but I don't like any potential shortenings. Louis is short enough already and is probably a bit easier to pronounce in a British accent.

DramaAlpaca · 27/02/2021 15:54

Louis would be my choice.

Sebastien/Sebastian is too long for me, and the male equivalent of a 'frilly' girls' name.

3CCC · 27/02/2021 15:59

Sebastian is one of my favourite boys names

Where I work Louis was the go to name for the naughty boys and now can't let that connotation go. Fwiw I'm sure there are some lovely Louis out there too

calimommy · 27/02/2021 16:00

I have a Lewis (who everyone assumes is Louis and that I, his mother, am mispronouncing it) and I also have a Sebastian. I know Lewis is not the same as Louis but it is similar, and I love both of the boys names and both are well received. People comment a lot that they love the name Sebastian and that it was on their list but they 'weren't brave enough to use it' whatever that means haha. At first I did find it a mouthful but you get used to things quickly. We do call him Sebbie for short or if he is needing a cuddle but otherwise he is known as Sebastian to everyone including family.

Wonderfulthings · 27/02/2021 16:02

I prefer Sebastian and as a pp has said good nickname choices - Sebby, Seb. I know a Sebastio who's known as Basti, which is nice too. Congratulations!

Bilgepumper · 27/02/2021 16:03

Sebastian is lovely.

Chilldonaldchill · 27/02/2021 16:12

Sebastian is gorgeous.
