Boy names for girls

me and dh are expecting a dd in june and are making our names list. We both love more 'masculine' sounding names but wanted to know your opinions on these for a girl! I'm aware the boy names for girls usually isn't very popular on here but wanted to see your thoughts.
Our 'boyish' names are
Rory
Cory (maybe Cora)
cal (shortened from Cassia?)
Avery

(we also love very 'girly' names eg. Kitty, Lolly, Blair - so it's not a 'wishing we had a boy instead' thing as many people had said when we mentioned it to others🙄)
Thanks!

Rory I definitely think of as a boy's name, whereas Avery is more unisex. Blair is also a boy's name for me as it was my uncle's name.

I like Cal a lot.

MeMeMeYou · 25/02/2021 20:28

I taught a girl called Darryl like Darryl Hannah and I thought it really worked

I have heard of some Katherines shortened to Kit which is more unisex than Kitty, if you’re looking for a masculine sounding name

I like Cora with nickname Cory best from your list

Loopyloututu2 · 25/02/2021 20:32

I like Avery, which I don’t consider a boys name anyway but I wouldn’t use the others for a girl. You have to consider the possibility of your child getting teased at school - Rory is still a very popular boys name and it could make things difficult for her. Cal sounds very masculine too.

ParisJeTAime · 25/02/2021 20:39

Avery is unisex to me.

Cora nn Cory is nice, but seems to be having a bit of a boom...

Rory could be short for Aurora.

Suggestions:

Elliott
Blake (I like this for a girl, but dislike it for a boy for some reason)
Leo, short for Leonora
Riley
Marley

Kennedy

Really like Aurora short for Rory! Aurora was on the list for dd1 but had never even thought about shortening it to that.

Sam

Gabriel

MaverickDanger · 25/02/2021 20:54

Aurora/Rory is a good option as it’s a very feminine name/connotation with a more masculine nn.

We have Billie, Stevie, Noa and Olly on our list for girls.

RachelRosie · 25/02/2021 21:06

Was going say Stevie, I know a LG called it and it's beautiful. I liked Aubrey when I was expecting.

Mallowmarshmallow · 25/02/2021 21:07

I love the name Robyn, Bobby or Robby for short. (And wish I'd called my DD that rather than her name which I'm never going to love...!)

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/02/2021 21:11

Frankie and Charlie both work as girls names imo.

TheVanguardSix · 25/02/2021 21:11

Frankie
Jaime
Ever
Everly
Harper
Harley
Arden
Sonny/Sunny

I love the name Avery. DD goes to school with one.

TheVanguardSix · 25/02/2021 21:12

Jesse as well.

Notgotanyidea · 25/02/2021 21:15

Elliot or Ellis

Flymetothestars · 25/02/2021 21:15

Wren
Aubrey

Inmypjsagain · 25/02/2021 21:16

I really like Stevie, think it would work with Stephanie as a full name!

star1459 · 25/02/2021 21:24

Marty
Alex
Dylan

Doublechins · 25/02/2021 21:35

I only know one Corey and that's a girl.

My youngest is Charlie and would have been even if he was a girl. I also like Frankie for a girl.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/02/2021 21:37

Avery is okay but sounds a bit too much like Aviary to me. I prefer similar unisex names like Eden and Rowan.

Cora nn Cory is nice - there is also Cordelia, Corisande, or Coralie/Coraline (the last two would give you both nn's Cory or Cal). Or you could use Charlotte, Caroline or Calista/Calisto for Cal.

Aurora nn Rory is cute too. In a similar style there is Aurelia nn Ray. Or very "out there" (but cool) Persephone nn Percy!

JengaNonConfirming · 25/02/2021 21:38

I like Matilda, shortened to Matt/Matty.

purplejungle · 25/02/2021 21:40

Love Harriet shortened to Harry

Volcanoexplorer · 25/02/2021 21:42

Ellis can be for both boys and girls

Sandyfeet101 · 25/02/2021 21:45

Taylor
Darcy
Kennedy
Jamie

Chilldonaldchill · 25/02/2021 21:51

I like Cal but short for Calista or Calla not as a stand alone name.
