Betty?

Has it been long enough that Betty is cool again along with all the other old lady chic names?

It was my Grandmothers name (She was just Betty, not short for Elizabeth or anything) and if given the opportunity of naming a DD I think I would consider it as a name, even though it still sounds really old fashioned to my ears because I've only ever known my GM with that name.
I can picture it on a little girl and and old lady but not a teen/young woman.

Has anyone heard of any baby Bettys lately or is it totally hideous and my fondness for my lovely grandma is tricking me into thinking it's actually a nice name?

Love it.

Personally I'd use Elizabeth as full name but I think it's totally fine as a given name too Smile

Absolutely awful name. Poor kid.
MN seem obsessed with the ugliest, frumpiest names imaginable Confused

I know a baby Betty. She suits it so much.

DoubleTweenQueen · 26/02/2021 09:03

I love it. Makes me think of old school Hollywood. Lovely if it was your grandmother's name.

Lochroy · 26/02/2021 09:08

I don't like it, but I do know a four year old Betty, not shortened.

milinhas · 26/02/2021 09:12

The Taylor Swift song referenced by a PP was in honour of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds third daughter Betty, so they definitely think it’s cool at least! I like it Smile

Theforest · 26/02/2021 09:41

I like it Grin

SnowdropsCrocuses · 26/02/2021 10:00

Love it. Very cool

JanewaysBun · 26/02/2021 10:02

Love!

One of the leads of Glow is called Betty in real-life and she is so beautiful and glamorous that's the thing I think of

BobbitWormNightmares · 26/02/2021 10:13

I like Betty I think it's cute but not too cutesy and will suit then throughout life.

Babdoc · 26/02/2021 10:17

Wasn’t there a tv series called Ugly Betty? Do you not fear that becoming your child’s nickname at school, OP?

Mollyy · 26/02/2021 10:39

I love it

Borogroves · 26/02/2021 10:45

I like Betty. Also love Bessie.

Volcanoexplorer · 26/02/2021 10:47

I know a 4 year old called Betty. Her full name is Elizabeth though, but she’s only ever been called Betty.

pinkpinecone · 26/02/2021 12:17

Betty and Betsy are both nice

Not really a concern considering it finished over 10 years ago and wasn't a hugely successful US show. I doubt kids in 6 years time will have heard of or reference it.

Bettina?

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 26/02/2021 14:59

Thanks for the opinions.
Elizabeth as a full name would work as that is DH mum and she would be thrilled to be honoured as well.
I don't love Elizabeth though, it's only ok on my opinion and I think I should really love a name.
I'll add to the initial list of ideas though. Smile

Know a 15 year old Betty. Parents quite cool and arty and Betty has turned out the same way. They were slightly ahead of the curve but it's bound to take off - super cute for a baby and fits the trend. How about Bettina or Bethan as a longer option for the birth cert?

2021isalsorubbish · 26/02/2021 16:22

Love it!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/02/2021 16:36

Great name! We had a beloved Betty in our family.

Allthebears · 26/02/2021 23:41

Love the name Betty. It was my beloved Granny's name - She had to correct people so many times throughout her life who assumed it must be short for Elizabeth (it wasn't) and she lived to be 94!

Having said that, Elizabeth on the birth cert gives more options later on should she prefer something more formal / different.
