Girl equivalent of Benedict

Does anyone know a female equivalent to Benedict ?

I vaguely remember Theodora is the English equivalent but I have no idea why - something to do with it meaning God’s blessing?

I was wondering if Beatrice was the same but I don’t like it very much 🙈

I know a woman called Benedicta. It’s not a made up name.

Myneighboursnorlax · 24/02/2021 17:12

I have a Norwegian friend called Benedicte. She also goes by Benny.

Gwyn is a boy's name.
I know a Benedicta

Benedikte yes I love it as a name Its the name of one of the queen of Denmarks sisters and as a child (Growing up in Denmark) I was adamant when I grew up I was going to have a girl named this. DH vetoed I still love it.

Already suggested, but apparently Euphemie / Euphemia mean well-spoken. Could shorten to Effie, which is a very sweet nn.

I like Benedicte as well. Theodora is nice too, but it doesn't appear to have much in common with Benedict.

Domini? Shortened to Domie. Feels similar to Benedict to me, strong name for a girl

Mavedrai · 24/02/2021 22:54

One of my aunts is named Benicia - I believe that's the female Spanish equivalent of Benedict. I think it would work well in Anglophone countries as well.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/02/2021 23:05

I used to work with a Benedicta about 25 years ago.

schplappo · 25/02/2021 17:23

I know three women named Benedicte/Benedikte. Two are French and one is Danish. One gets known as Ben, one as Benni and one just uses her full name. All three of them are pretty cool.

Firebird83 · 25/02/2021 18:45

Benita or Bettina

Firebird83 · 25/02/2021 18:46

Benita is the Spanish version

Cindie943811A · 25/02/2021 20:10

Several years ago there as a Danish tv detective series where the main (female) character was Benedikte (final e pronounced as a). I was very taken by the name.

Serin · 26/02/2021 22:05

St Benedict's sister was St Scholastica. That has a ring to it!

nevertrustaherdofcows · 26/02/2021 22:09

Beata ?

Think it means 'Blessed'

Ellmau · 27/02/2021 12:15

I think you could get away with Benny as a nickname for Berenice.

janedoedeerafemaledeer · 27/02/2021 16:01

Bernice
Benedita

janedoedeerafemaledeer · 27/02/2021 16:02

Bonnie-Dick

I know a Benedicte called Benny for short! It’s a lovely name!
