Sorry I didn't read the post just assumed you were after similar names, apologies. I like Melissa. It's a lovely name.

AdelaideK · 21/02/2021 18:24

I like it. I like Alyssa too.

As a previous poster said it's better than the zillionth Olivia or Evie.

I like it. And the meaning.
I like lissa or lissy for a nn.
I had a school friend melissa. She went by Mickey sometines. That was cute.

VettiyaIruken · 28/02/2021 10:01

It's a perfectly fine name imo

PompomDahlia · 28/02/2021 12:53

Larissa is much nicer IMO. Melissa is a bit 80s/90s to me - there were loads at school, so I can see it becoming a bit like Debbie or Sandra in a few years

I'm a Melissa 🙋🏼‍♀️ unfortunately (for everyone that hates Mel, I don't hate it tbf) Melissa does 100% get shortened down to Mel, but some family call me liss or meliss, never lissa.. so although Melissa is a lovely name only a handful of people actually say the full name & if you announce yourself as Mel people automatically assume it's short for Melanie and I can tell you, it will be the bane of your future child's life if they're anything like this Melissa 😂😂

@Remaker

Ahem I have some personal experience with this name and will try not be offended by the apparently universal belief on MN that my chosen nn is awful.

But it is chosen as I spent my entire childhood being called either my full name or Liss/Lissy. And those names didn’t suit me when I grew up so at Uni I switched to Mel. And I’ve happily been that for decades now and refuse to accept it is a horrible name. Every Melissa/Melinda/Melanie I know is a Mel and all by their own choice, not because someone has imposed a frightful name on them. It’s a strong woman’s name IMO.

Anyway I’ve always liked my name, it has never been particularly popular and the only downside of the nn is people assume what your full name is instead of asking.

Yes!! With you 100%! People assuming Mel is short for Melanie by any chance? 😂
