Ella and Alice? Do they sound good together or too similar?

Too similar I think, purely from a bellowing-up-the-stairs point of view.

Tamingofthehamster · 16/02/2021 06:42

I think they’re fine. Different

Tamingofthehamster · 16/02/2021 06:43

...ending sound, different starting letter. As long as you don’t call Alice Ally as a nickname.

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 07:06

Yes

Oh sorry, hit send too soon. Yes, we wouldn't call her Ally but I guess the problem is nicknames are out of our control once she's a little older.

Fine unless they are Elly and Ally.

babynamelover · 16/02/2021 08:00

Too close for me.

partyatthepalace · 16/02/2021 08:03

@ILoveStickers

Fine unless they are Elly and Ally.
This is the only thing...
Whatsyourflava · 16/02/2021 08:05

Both lovely names
I don't find them too similar. I think it's fine

Himawarigirl · 16/02/2021 08:13

I think they sound nice together.

glitterbubbles · 16/02/2021 08:15

I think it's fine and they're both great names :)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/02/2021 08:16

Think they sound lovely together

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 08:39

I really like both names, it's just when I say them together that I wonder whether they work. The Alice nickname 'Ally' is another thing, we wouldn't use it but others might. Not sure whether Alice tends to get shortened though.

OP posts:
ILoveStickers · 16/02/2021 08:42

Tbh I don't know any Alices whose names are shortened, so as long as you're not calling her Ally routinely I think it's probably ok.

Chilldonaldchill · 16/02/2021 10:43

I know a lot of Alices ranging from age 5 to 25 and I've never met one who was called Ally (or anything other than Alice).

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 10:47

I think it's fine. You could shorten Alice to Liss? Avoid any confusion!

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 11:13

We're happy to just use Alice without any nicknames. I guess I was just worried others would call her Ally/ she'd go by Ally in the future and then we would have an Ally and an Ella which we wouldn't want. Reassuring to hear that other Alice's you know don't have the nickname Ally. Perhaps I am just overthinking it Smile!

Synchrony · 16/02/2021 11:13

I don't know any Alice's who have their names shortened.
Alice and Ella sound nothing alike to me. I'd have no concerns.

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 13:35

Ok this is good to hear. They do sound a little too similar when I say them together but perhaps I'll be able to get used to that. I just worried that it sounded a bit silly.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/02/2021 15:48

Ella and Alice are fine imo - lovely names. The only thing I'd say that Ella seems a little more trendy/contemporary sounding than classic/traditional Alice (Emma and Alice would be a more obvious pairing), but not to the point it's unusual or unusable (and some people say sibsets shouldn't be the exactly same style anyway!)

redyellowpink · 16/02/2021 15:51

These are mine and my sister's names. Not too similar!

MaidEdithofAragon · 16/02/2021 15:52

Eleanor and Alice is a fab combination.

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 15:59

We've got the Ella already (definitely an Ella not an Eleanor), it's just the name for little sister

SpringSummer22345 · 16/02/2021 16:01

@redyellowpink nice to hear that you haven't found them to be too similar

MeBingandBong · 16/02/2021 21:51

I like it - sounds nice together
