Nice name for a cow, rabbit or goat.

I think as flower names go Bluebell's a bit "out there", sorry - it's more along the lines of Tulip, Marigold, Hyacinth rather than Lily, Rose, Iris etc. It's certainly memorable but your DD might not appreciate that.

There is more of a middle ground with flower/plant names - Jessamine, Dahlia, Bryony, Cassia or even Zinnia are pretty uncommon but sound more well -known/less extreme than Bluebell imo.

mamablondie33 · 16/02/2021 14:17

I love it!

I don’t get how Lily and Poppy etc are deemed acceptable but not Bluebell? It’s just another flower name. If you like it DO IT.

Calmondeck · 16/02/2021 18:40

Keep in mind that she will likely either become Blue or Belle in day to day life. There seems to be an abundance of little Belle/Bella/Ella/Elle’s (though I still like all of these).

So to me the question is are you most attached to the Blue part of the name? Because you could have an Isabelle, Annabelle etc and still reach the same day to day name.

If it’s nature/flower names you like, already some good suggestions, I think Fleur works too.

If it’s the slightly alternative sound of Blue you like, consider Winter, Alma/Alba, Taiya, Tansy.

Chilldonaldchill · 16/02/2021 20:14

It feels naff to me.
However I think it's the sort of name that rich Islington families could get away with.

UntamedShrew · 16/02/2021 20:17

I love it. If she isn’t a girly girl she’ll end up being known as blue or BB or Bee.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 16/02/2021 20:18

Its a cows name

DotDotDotDotDot · 16/02/2021 23:10

If you love it I think you should go for it. It could be a quirky middle name and you never know she may love it too. Maybe paired with something like
Evelyn Bluebell
Felicity Bluebell
Harriet Bluebell
Matilda Bluebell
Harriet Bluebell

Kanaloa · 17/02/2021 14:26

It’s a bit out there. If it’s the ‘belle’ part you like, would something like Isabella Blue/Anabelle Blue work? Then you could still have both parts Bluebell but in a more traditional/wearable name for the child.

notalwaysalondoner · 17/02/2021 18:14

I work in a high pressure professional environment, and I have to admit, on the rare occasion I come across women with little-girly, twee names it does undermine them. I recently worked with a Tilly and also with a Mimi and it was just hard to take them as seriously as e.g. a Catherine or an Emily. Bluebell would be even more extreme. I think unless you're a celeb or an aristocrat best avoided, maybe save it for a middle name (or a pet...)

insancerre · 17/02/2021 18:16

I know a Bluebelle and she is the least girlie girl I know
To me, it’s not even a flowers name, it’s the name of a cow

likeamillpond · 17/02/2021 18:18

Alright for a pet rabbit.

Topseyt · 17/02/2021 18:30

Not my cup of tea, I have to say.

It is a cow's name, or a goat's. It makes me think of mountainside cattle and goats in the Alps or other large mountain ranges with their bells dingle-dongling around their necks.

HeadlessGummyBears · 17/02/2021 18:48

I think Bluebell/Bluebelle is lovely but as a compromise, it would make a great middle name. Some suggestions would be:

  • Alexandra
  • Alicia
  • Amelia
  • Autumn
  • Catherine
  • Chloe
  • Danielle
  • Emma
  • Eleanor
  • Elizabeth
  • Francesca
  • Genevieve
  • Harriet
  • Henrietta
  • Imogen
  • Jessica
  • Marian/Marianne
  • Meredith
  • Miriam
  • Ophelia
  • Penelope
  • Tabitha
  • Vivienne

Am really sorry cause you like this name, but the only Bluebell I know is an award winning cow that my uncle owns.

CautiousBlonde · 17/02/2021 18:57

I love it OP but my kids have names like that, so that’s probably why

CautiousBlonde · 17/02/2021 18:58

And I didn’t think of cows, I thought of bluebells

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 17/02/2021 19:11

I would imagine that she wouldn't want to be called by that name by high school, if not earlier. So make sure you like Belle/Bella etc.

ClinkyMonkey · 17/02/2021 20:00

I'm not keen on it, but I'm sure if I knew a Bluebell, I would get used to it and not think about it too much.

I used to work with a woman called Marigold. She could be pleasant ... unless you crossed her, at which point she turned into a Rottweiler. She was very unMarigoldlikeGrinGrin
