Melisande/Mirabel?

Are we too out there with Melisande or Mirabel for a middle name for Xanthe?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Melisande is very close to Melisandre who is the thousands of years old woman in Game of Thrones who constantly got her boobs out whilst persuading a bloke to burn his own daughter to death at the stake, so I would say no to that one.

I'm not hugely keen on Mirabel either to be honest, although I do like Xanthe Smile

Mirabel

Yep I misread it initially and thats exactly the thought that popped into my mind. I would hazard a guess I won't be the only one to misread it and make that connection.

Mirabel however is lovely.

Mirabel is lovely. I thought exactly the same thing about Melisande I'm afraid. A vile character in that slightly fucked up program (which yes, I did watch some of, until it got way too torture porny).

I really like Mirabel, lovely

ladygindiva · 15/02/2021 14:28

I really like mirabel. I also love Miriam, miranda. But my favourite Mir name is Mirela, I met a Romanian girl called tgat once, I think its so pretty.

Dinosauraddict · 15/02/2021 14:28

I thought the GoT character too! Sorry OP.

ladygindiva · 15/02/2021 14:28

*called that

Frankiefarr · 15/02/2021 14:35

The advantages of posting here.! I don’t watch GOT and wondered why Google kept trying to autocorrect Melisande to Melisandre. So annoying as Melisande the real one was a powerful queen and proto feminist!

OP posts:
Timpeall · 15/02/2021 14:39

I thought of the GoT Melisandre who wasn't the warmest of characters, but I also thought of a Melisande from Enid Blyton's Mistletoe Farm. 8 year old me thought it was a very fancy name indeed.

Either are fine as a middle name.

Synchrony · 15/02/2021 14:51

I love Mirabel and it was on my long-list.

As a child/teenager I loved Melisande too. It reminds me both of Melisande from Mistletoe Farm, and also Princess Melisande in the animated film 'The Flight of Dragons', which I loved in the 1980s. I don't watch GOT so don't care about the association there.

I think Mirabel goes a bit better with Xanthe.

Trumplosttheelection · 15/02/2021 14:55

Yup Melisandre has wrecked melisande for a bit.

Miranda is lovely and less out there.

Xanthe Miranda could be taken to mean 'golden, worthy of admiration'
Which is pretty cool

Destinyknown · 15/02/2021 14:59

Mirabel is ♥️ love it! It's a bit common and very sweet but also nice for a teenager and woman. Ah I like it so much

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/02/2021 16:33

Mirabel is nice and would work with Xanthe (although I slightly prefer the similar Mireia or Miranda).

Serin · 16/02/2021 00:35

Mirabel? what as in the main crop potato variety?

Bluesername · 16/02/2021 01:01

Mirabelle with this spelling is lovely

Changethetoner · 16/02/2021 01:03

How about Melanie?

VenusClapTrap · 16/02/2021 09:43

I think they’re both very frilly, and a bit too much with Xanthe. I’d choose a simpler middle name personally. That said, nobody really uses middle names in day to day life, so it doesn’t actually matter.

Chilldonaldchill · 16/02/2021 10:41

Mirabel is much nicer but Miranda is nicer still!

TatianaBis · 16/02/2021 11:49

Love Mirabel, like Melisande. Prefer them both to Xanthe - which is a bit harsh.

I'd go with Mirabel Xanthe personally.

TatianaBis · 16/02/2021 11:50

If I had to choose, as per the OP, it would be Xanthe Mirabel. I think that works well.

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 12:06

Xanthe Miriam is also lovely. I love Miriam and Maria. Mirabel is nice though and definitely fine, not too out there for a middle name at all. I probably wouldn't pick it as a first name, but that's neither here nor there!

finallychangedmyusername · 16/02/2021 12:34

I'd be tempted to pair Xanthe with a more mainstream middle name personally.

Xanthe Caroline keeps calling to me.

Or

Xanthe Alice
Xanthe Georgina
Xanthe Lydia
Xanthe Eleanor
Xanthe Charlotte
Xanthe Matilda

Firebird83 · 17/02/2021 00:19

I like Mirabel Xanthe
