Already have Marianne nn Annie, having a bit of trouble choosing a name for her brother!

Current shortlist: Albert, Thomas, James.

What would you pick?

Out of those? Probably Albert or Thomas.

Picking one myself: Jasper, Lawrence, Angus, Miles.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 15/02/2021 08:15

Thomas

MissyB1 · 15/02/2021 08:18

Out of those Thomas
Other suggestions
Francis
Joseph
Alexander
Patrick
Conal

macdhui · 15/02/2021 08:18

All three are lovely - would probably go with Albie or Jimmy

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/02/2021 08:19

Connell, of course Wink

Fivemoreminutes1 · 15/02/2021 08:36

Of those three, I’d pick Thomas.
If it were myself, I’d say Dominic or Edward nn Teddy

Whatsyourflava · 15/02/2021 09:17

James is lovely

Like suggestion of Laurence

Zofloratheexplorer · 15/02/2021 09:31

Thomas

Toilenstripes · 15/02/2021 09:32

Jacob is lovely, or Joshua

Thanks! It's so tricky as I work in a school so end up getting put off names of certain kids. I'd forgotten James is shortened to Jimmy, not sure I like Jimmy though love Jamie and Jim.

Albert

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/02/2021 11:41

I really like James (if you want a nn then my personal fave is the medieval Jem). It's the most classic, timeless boys name yet it's the least used now in the UK than it's even been (finally out of the top 20)- so now is a good time to pick it! It also works the best with Marianne of your choices to me.

Thomas is nice but too popular imo, and Albert is very retro so may date more than Marianne and your other 2 choices.

I think you should stay classic to fit with the lovely Marianne, so if not James then maybe - Edward, Robert, John, Henry, Frederick, Charles, Alexander, William etc

AerialDazzle · 15/02/2021 12:14

Jem is gorgeous! Really taken with that.

Matthew
or
Johnathan

good solid traditional but not overused these days

partyatthepalace · 15/02/2021 13:42

Thomas, or otherwise James

Think they go better with Marianne than Albert

Orphlids · 15/02/2021 21:02

Ooh yes, Jem is lovely! I’d go for Thomas or James from your list, as both are rather dashing. I think Albert is rather dreary by comparison.

Marianne is a gorgeous name.

35andThriving · 15/02/2021 21:14

Out of your names, James is great.

Also: Jonathan, Nathaniel or Martin.

BallsToYouSue · 15/02/2021 21:24

I love Thomas. It's a well used classic, but I still love it.

Albert sounds a bit Victorian or 1940s, while Marianne makes me think of Jane Austen, so I wouldn't naturally put them together.

I used to adore the name James and was going to use it for dd (had she been a boy), but where we live (near London), it sometimes get said with a really drawn out Jaaaaaaaaayyyyyy-mes. So, by the time we had DS, a few years later, I had gone right off it.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 15/02/2021 21:59

I read the thread title and before reading the name Thomas sprang to mind.

itallworkedouthorribly · 15/02/2021 22:07

Hugo

CoddledAsAMommet · 15/02/2021 22:11

I love the name Marianne.
Robert goes really well. Traditional and underused. Or Christopher, shortened to Kit.

frogswimming · 15/02/2021 22:13

Albert doesn't go well imo. I like the other two names with it though.

Firebird83 · 17/02/2021 00:12

James “Jem” would be lovely

Calmondeck · 17/02/2021 13:36

Marianne & Thomas. Annie & Tom. Love this as a sibset

AerialDazzle · 17/02/2021 15:21

This is really helpful, but now the list is growing! I have:

Thomas
James
William
Alexander (is Annie and Alexander a bit much though?)
Robin (I don't like Rob though and not sure if he would get called Rob?)
Jeremy

Starting to look more like a long list! I think I like Marianne more as I like a lot of names used around 1950 and I forgot about the Regency aspect.
